Ms. Patricia Reid

In Loving Memory Of Patricia Maxine Reid was born July 25, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan to the union of Matthew and Edna Reid. She was the third child to this union, but their first daughter. She was educated in the Detroit Public School System and graduated from Detroit Kettering Senior High School in 1972. Pat accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Executive Protection Department under the leadership of Pastor Nathan Johnson. Pat worked briefly in manufacturing where it didn’t take her long to realize that it was not her calling. During this time she became a mother to her one and only child Terrence. Her desire to be a great mom and provide for him lead to her to embark on a journey in law enforcement. It didn’t take her long to realize that this was her true calling. Officer Reid then entered the Detroit Police Academy and graduated in the Class of 1977-F. Officer Reid absolutely loved being a member of the Detroit Police Department and was assigned to many commands in her 33 years of service. Officer Reid worked the Special Events Section at Cobo Hall, Beat, and Vehicle Patrol, 1st Precinct as a patrol officer, 10th Precinct as a patrol officer, and worked the Precinct Desk with Lieutenant Blakely. Detroit Police Reserves, training officers and assigning detail to the Detroit Police Firearms unit as Firearms Instructor where she remained until her retirement in March of 2011. Pat continued to work in law enforcement even after retiring from her beloved DPD. She worked at Wayne County Community College District and was the first female Sergeant in charge of security officers and in charge of qualifying them with firearms. She was the first to train WCCCD Officers to carry firearms. She also created classes to train individuals for their Concealed Permit license (CPL). Pat enjoyed an awesome career and worked extremely hard in her craft, but she was not all work and no play. Pat loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society believing strongly in the value of bonding and building strong friendships. She was preceded in death by both parents and her big brother Kenneth E. Reid. Pat leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her one and only son Terrence (Katina), her best friend and only sister Lorena; four loving and protective brothers, Matthew, Dennis, Ronald, and Kevin (Tanisha); four grandchildren, Carlos, Terriauna, Terrence Jr., and Skylar; five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
