Mr. Lovell "Kofi" Davis

In Loving Memory Of Lovell Davis was born May 9, 1969 in Detroit, Michigan to Sarah Davis and Robert Hill. He was the firstborn child of four shared between the two. As a child, Lovell was extremely inquisitive, stubborn, and caring which kept him busy through the Detroit Public School system. After graduating from Mumford High School, Lovell thrived while teaching water aerobics at Northwest Activity Center. After fully realizing his talents, he decided to relocate to California where he worked on a number of creative projects including writing a screenplay. Lovell was mesmerized with California living but drove back to Detroit at least once yearly to help his grandmother plant her garden. Lovell was very afrocentric and possessed a passion for community, togetherness, and exploring youth creativity. To highlight his creativity, he changed his name to Kofi Heru which means running wind. Even while in California, he kept his hands in Detroit community projects acting as Drama Director at Kabazz Cultural Center and Creative Advisor of the Mime program at Tindal Recreation Center. These ventures led Lovell back home to Detroit where he continued to impact everyone around him with his unique and lasting presence. Lovell spent the past 20 years volunteering countless hours at Mother Waddles Perpetual Mission where he built strong bonds. His spirit was fed by deep, intellectual conversations, and positivity. No matter how he felt, when asked how he was feeling, he always responded “Better and Better…growing everyday”. Lovell’s mind was his playground. He expressed himself through writing poems, songs, playing the drums and keyboard. If he wasn’t near his drum, he would make one using his chest, leg, table or dashboard–either way he was going to let it out! On December 4, 2023, Lovell completed his journey on this earth. He will be missed for his calm presence, wealth of knowledge, warm hugs, willingness to help, being a free spirit, and even his stubbornness. Fly high Kofi, your legacy has been left. Lovell was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hill; brothers: Roger Yarbourough and Leonard Davis; sister: Sandra Yarbourough. Left to cherish his memory is mother, Sarah Davis; brothers: Tommy Davis, Orlando Davis, Robert Hill (Mary), Torone Hill, and Maurice Hill; sisters: Maria and Sharmecka Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and special friend Andrea Ellis.
