Ms. Doris Wine

In Loving Memory of Doris Wine July 23, 1948 – July 1, 202 Ms. Doris Wine peacefully departed this life on July 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, strength, and quiet grace. She was born on July 23, 1948, in Dixon Mill, Alabama, to Johnny James Lewis and Lille Mae Lewis. Doris was a devoted woman of God whose faith was the foundation of everything she built. She gave her life to Christ at a young age and never wavered in that walk. She trusted God through every season, and she showed His love plainly through kindness, humility, and a devotion to her family, her friends, and anyone lucky enough to cross her path. She ministered to young people wherever she found them, at work or at church, leading Bible study and building science and math programs to sharpen the minds of the youth in her congregation. She loved spreading the goodness of the Lord and singing in the choir just as much. Volunteering was her passion; she gave more than 31 faithful years to the Detroit Rescue Mission and carried ministry into the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, pouring wisdom, encouragement, and the love of Christ into women looking for a second chance. Doris believed God's promises the way most people believe gravity, completely, without needing proof; she lived every day with a servant's heart. She was also known for a work ethic that did not quit and a standard of excellence she held herself to without exception. She believed learning never stopped, and in 1987 she earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy to prove it. Her career started as an office manager at United Insurance Company, until she decided she wanted something more. A friend told her Ford Motor Company was hiring and, half-joking, told her to write directly to the President of Ford. Doris did not think it would work. She wrote the letter anyway. It worked. That was Doris: favored, and not afraid to ask big. She went on to a 39-year career at Ford spanning Weight Analyst, program control application development, department budget management, application security, project management, and financial control, before retiring in 2013 with a legacy of professionalism nobody in that building will forget. Somehow, in between building a career and working in ministry, she also found time to golf, play tennis, and coach little league softball. She was a devoted sports fan who never missed football or basketball season, and if you brought up Magic Johnson in her presence, you were settling in for a conversation. Above everything, Doris cherished her family. She was a loving mother to her only daughter, Jarrite, a proud grandmother to her three grandsons, a devoted sister among five siblings, and a cherished aunt, cousin, and friend to more people than any one page could hold. Her gentle spirit and unconditional love built a foundation generations of her family still stand on. In her later years, Doris faced a long journey with Alzheimer's disease with the same grace she brought to everything else. The illness changed a great deal, but it never touched her smile, and it never touched her manners. For more than eight years, her care became a labor of love carried by many hands: her daughter, Jarrite; her brother, Raymond; sister-in-love, Shelley; her baby sister, Anntonette; grandsons Ernest, Brandon, and Elijah; granddaughter-in-love, GiGi; and her devoted caregiver and dear friend, Brenda. Whether it was hands-on daily care, opening a home, offering respite, or simply sitting with her, this family made sure Doris was never without dignity, compassion, and love. Her family finds comfort knowing she is now whole, at perfect peace, and forever in the presence of her Savior. Doris leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Jarrite Wine-Jackson; her brother, Raymond (Shelley) Lewis; her sisters, Dorothy Mercer and Anntonette (Eddie) Thompson; her grandsons, Ernest (GiGi) Jackson V, Brandon Jackson, and Elijah Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Jackson, Jarred Jackson, Rylinn Jackson, Audrianna Jackson, Reign Jackson, and Solana Jackson; her nieces, Linda Anderson, Timmica Tolliver, Myla Lewis, Sumika Myrick, Melissa Carney, LaTangula Bell, and Sharisse White; her nephews, Raymond Edward Lewis, Earl Cox Jr., Eddie Rashad Thompson, Robert Lewis, and Michael Lewis; her best friend since the third grade, Jewel Gardner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends whose lives she made richer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie James and Lille Mae Lewis; her brothers, John Earl and Leroy Lewis; her sister, Hazel Robinson; and nephew, Tauqua Mercer. Our hearts grieve her absence, but we rejoice in the blessed assurance that, because of her faith in Jesus Christ, she has traded earthly suffering for eternal peace. Her life was a testament to faith, resilience, love, and devotion that did not quit.
