Mr. Alex Cecil Brown

Alex Cecil Brown was born on September 26, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan, to A.C. Brown and Joyce Rita Brown (Bynum). He was one of three siblings. His brother was Adam Brown Sr., and his sister was Sarita Ann Brown. His parents and siblings preceded him in death. He was educated in Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Pershing High School in 1982. While enrolled in ROTC, doctors first discovered that he had sickle cell disease during Military Entrance Processing testing and he was officially diagnosed. This prevented him from pursuing his original plan of serving in the United States Armed Forces. Alex accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at Leland Baptist Church. Throughout his journey of faith, he utilized and developed his God-given spiritual gifts such as wisdom, faith, teaching, mercy, exhortation and encouragement to lead others to a personal relationship with Christ. He was taught by and stood on the shoulders of teachers, leaders and giants in the Kingdom of God. Mr. Brown joined Body of Christ Christian Center in 1992, where he sang in the choir and used his acting abilities and humor to glorify the Lord under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth L. Tate. In 1996, under the leadership of Pastor Yolanda D. Tyson, he was baptized and rededicated his life to Christ. Throughout his spiritual journey, he also held membership at Perfecting Church under Pastor Marvin L. Winans, Christian Tabernacle under Dr. James L. Morman, and Fellowship Baptist Church under Pastor Samuel Berry Jr. Alex joined Greater Ebenezer Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church in 1994, where he served as a deacon in training under the leadership of Dr. William H. Murphy, Sr. In 1999, he joined Deeper Life Gospel Center under the spiritual covering of Dr. Wade A. Bell, Sr. and Pastor Marcia Bell. Through the years, he faithfully served as a Christian Education Teacher, Department Head of Keeping The Word Alive (Media Ministry, Men of Integrity Men's Ministry leader, Kidz Kingdom teacher, kitchen staffmember, announcement team member, and Real Life Drama Team member. Recently, he counted it an honor and privilege to prepare and teach the New Testament Survey class. Brother Brown truly lived out the mission of the house: "to teach the gospel that will change your very life." Alex had aspirations of becoming an engineer and completed three years of study toward that goal. His journey as a chef and food connoisseur began in 1992 while working as a line cook at Big Fish in Dearborn, Michigan. Throughout his life, he found great joy in creating meals and recipes and sharing them with loved ones. He dreamed of opening a restaurant with live music and signature dishes, which he planned to name Alexander's Place. In 1996, he worked as a Paralegal Assistant at Diversified Consulting Services. He later obtained his chauffeur's license and worked as a driver for Waste Management. In 1999, he graduated from Virginia Farrell School of Cosmetology. After graduation, he worked at We Be Jammin'The Salon. Later in life, he served as Director of Food Service at both Sunrise Senior Living and the Michigan Department of Corrections. Some of Alex's hobbies and interests included playing the guitar, watching sports and race cars, and following football. He had a true love for automobiles. His favorites included Aston Martin, Dodge Viper, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. He enjoyed regularly attending the Woodward Dream Cruise and the North American International Auto Show. In his spare time, Alex worked as a test car driver for Roush Performance through Driven Workforce. He also loved collecting comic books and enjoyed Marvel, Superman, Batman, and Star Wars. Alex met Monica Lynn Jordan in 1992. Along with Monica came a bright-eyed two-year-old, Marchelle Lynn, whom Alex lovingly raised as his daughter. Alex and Monica were united in marriage on July 31, 1993, and to this union, Alexander "Buddy" Brown was born on September 27, 1994 — just one day after Alex's birthday. After going their separate ways, Alex and Monica found love and friendship again on February 8, 2009. It was then that he officially welcomed Rashard Anthony, a five-year-old young man whom Alex would raise as his son alongside his firstborn son and daughter. Even after divorce, Monica and Alex remained the best of friends. Together, they taught their children to keep God first and to understand the value and power of trust, unity, faith, respect and the art of forgiveness. Together, they proved that love can remain present even when titles change, producing unconditional love and a lifetime of precious memories. Their commitment to peaceful parenting and mutual care became a lasting example of maturity, grace, and love for families. Alex was a man of integrity, kindness, loyalty, patience, and faith. He loved studying and teaching God's Word. His motto was to always lead with love and humility. His infectious smile, sense of humor, and laughter brought joy to everyone who knew him. He took pride in his appearance, always keeping his hair neat, dressing well, and remaining well groomed. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many. One of Alex's greatest joys in life was being a present, dedicated, and supportive father. He found happiness and purpose in raising all three of his children. With his firstborn son, Buddy he loved listening to music, supporting him at his shows, gigs or church services, watching movies, playing video games, and talking about life and cars. He even coached his little league team with the Berkley Steelers. With Chelle, he often studied the Bible, listened and danced to music, shared cooking recipes, and enjoyed Chinese food together. With Shardy, they played video games, spent time downtown, went out to eat, and "talked junk." He also cherished being a grandfather and often reflected on the many meaningful conversations he shared with his beloved grandson, Quincy. After courageously battling sickle cell disease throughout his life, Alex transitioned at 61 years young. Doctors initially gave him a life expectancy of only 32 years old and advised him never to marry or have children to avoid passing on the disease. However, Alex believed that the promises of God were the only final authority over his life. His resilience, loving heart, and unwavering faith carried him through challenges many could never imagine. He remained a warrior and overcomer through the blood of the Lamb and the power of his testimony. Though sickle cell disease challenged his body, it never conquered his mind nor spirit. In every season of life, he displayed grace, strength, humility, and perseverance. Alex Brown was truly a walking, living miracle. Mr. Alex Cecil Brown was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. His legacy will be forever cherished and carried on by his children: Alexander Courtney Brown, Marchelle Lynn Ross (Quenton), and Rashard Anthony Miles; grandson, Quincy Alexander Ross; nieces: Malika (Ron), Ataeya Brown, Tamiya Brown, and Antonique; nephew, Adam Brown Jr.; great-nephew, Adam Brown III; uncle, Arthur Bynum (B.D.); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family members, church family and dear friends.
