Attorney Alan Alvester Byrd, Jr.

Celebrating The Life Of A. Alan. Byrd: A. Alan Byrd was born on June 13, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to Alvester and Helen Remell Byrd. His family and friends affectionately knew him as "Joe Joe." He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. As the middle child of three sisters, and the only son, Alan loved sports, cars, and spending time with family and friends. Needless to say, being the only brother, he was the favorite brother. He had a quintessential childhood growing up on Vinewood Street in Detroit. His neighborhood was filled with extended family, close friends, and wonderful role models. Alan attended Detroit Public Schools, graduating from Cass Technical High School and Michigan State University, where he proudly wore his green and white. Alan was a Spartan man! Shortly after graduation, Alan began employment with Detroit Public Schools. It was there that he met and married the love of his life Saundra Floyd. To this union his only child and apple of his eye, Danielle Nicole Byrd was born. Being the scholar that he was, Alan decided to further his education and attended the University of Detroit Mercy-Law obtaining his Juris Doctorate. Shortly thereafter, he founded the Law Office of A. Alan Byrd. While in practice he successfully litigated numerous high profile cases. Alan was a very giving and loving man. That spirit spilled over into the work he did for his clients. Alan had many passions in life. He loved cooking and grilling for family and friends on holidays and special occasions, creating his own signature barbecue sauce. As an avid sports fan and athlete Al enjoyed watching games and predicting the outcomes. Alan had a love for all genres of music, but nothing compared to the classic Motown Sound. He was an avid reader, who loved history and debating. He was always ready for a rousing political debate. He proudly hosted several fundraisers and campaigned vigorously for President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Alan was a passionate and lifelong Detroiter. He loved the opportunities that the city of Detroit gave to his parents' generation, and the lifestyle it afforded him to provide for his family. Through the good and the bad, Alan loved the Motor City. With a strong devotion to family, he also courageously served as a sound father figure for nieces, nephews, and extended family, with a special love for the Payton Family. He departed this life on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the age of 63.
