In Loving Memory Of On September 17, 1970, Shauna Akim (Galloway) Williams made her grand entrance into the world, by way of Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Growing up, Shauna always loved music. She sang incessantly; even when older sister, Charisse (Galloway-Gibert) Staine, asked her to be quiet, she would continue to sing her heart out! No matter the occasion you could find her singing some of her favorite El Debarge and Howard Hewett tunes. Every church the Galloway family attended, Shauna sang; Although a child, Shauna was an active member of the adult choir at both Oakland Missionary Baptist (Louisiana) and Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church (Texas). Shauna found her love and commitment for basketball in the 6th grade at John Quincy Adams Junior High (Metairie, Louisiana). It was here that she forged her path and passion for the love of the game that carried her through high school (McCullough High School, The Woodlands, TX). She received scholarships to many universities including Texas Tech. As a Jack-In-The-Box employee and captain of the basketball team, she brought her gregarious nature and vitality of life to everyone she met. To see her on the court was pure fun; She was fast, focused and wild! Shauna’s fun bubbled off of her, rolled off the basketball court, and into the stands. Whether spectator, or player, seeing her play basketball was exhilarating and motivating. While enjoying her time playing basketball, she also thrived and sharpened her leadership skills through Jack and Jill of America along with many other leadership organizations. As a Freshman at Prairie View A&M University, Shauna immediately excelled in her classes and earned the admonition of her peers who voted her the leadership role of Student-body class President. She maintained this position through her Sophomore and Junior years. While listening to one of her favorite bands, Tony! Toni! Toné!, she played recreational basketball, joined the Business fraternity, Phi Beta Lambda, and the Baptist Student Movement Choir. By Junior year, she was inducted into the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Zeta Gamma chapter, where they crowned her “Walt Disney” and she eventually became Vice-President of her chapter. At last, Shauna was given a name that embodied her young-spunk, business ethics, and child-like wonder and faith. Before graduating Prairie View with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Minor in Business, she was named Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Neophyte of The Year! In the Summer of 1992, following college graduation, Shauna married the love of her life, and long-time boo-thing, Orlando Williams Jr.. August 1st marked the beginning of 29 years of a loving marriage that birthed 3 anointed children, 1 son-in-love and 2 grandchildren ; Alexandria and Michael Daniels (Daughter + Son-in-Love), Jai Lynne Williams (Daughter), and Matthew Williams (Son), Mackenzie Daniels (Granddaughter), Ezekiel Daniels (Grandson). While mothering her 3 children, playing the role of “Auntie Shauna” and “Mommie #2” for her nephew (Joshua Gibert) and 3 nieces (Chloe, Chai and Chari Gibert), she continued to live a well-rounded and accomplished life. Shauna was the principal of Kingdom Academy for over 5 years, where during her tenure, she successfully wrote a grant which provided a brand new computer lab for all students within the school; She was also a Top Avon Representative and Travel Agent. Later in life, Shauna added Executive Assistant at DWO, Executive Administrator to the CEO at Flagstar Bank, and becoming an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Michigan chapter, Omega Epsilon Omega to the list. She even became an accomplished writer, compiling years of wisdom, prayer and thoughts into what would become her first, unpublished, book. Shauna was a world-traveler; she visited Paris, Jamaica, Belize, Mexico and Haiti, just to name a few. She did not allow her love for life to stop at vacationing. Shauna lived in Schenectady, NY, Savannah, GA, New Orleans, LA, The Woodlands, TX, Flint and many other cities in Michigan. For 51 years, Shauna cherished, challenged, prayed for, fought for, protected, and loved all those around her. She made her heart accessible to all that knew her. Whether you had the benefit of calling her God-mommy, like Imani, Jordan, Shia, Kendall, Carleton (and many others), or you had a casual conversation with her, she was honest about her shortcomings, strengths and consistent reliance on God to make up for any gaps within her life. Every accomplishment, ministry, and life endeavor accomplished by Shauna Akim Williams was fueled by her everlasting relationship with God. In addition to the family listed above, Shauna will be loved by her parents, Cheryl and Dalbert Galloway, her grandmother, Clara Westbrook, father-in-love, Orlando Williams Sr., her aunts and uncles, Jackie Williams, Joseph and Joann Avery, Billy and Sherida Avery, Ralph Westbrook, Mervin and Joy Galloway, as well as her sister-in-love Jamelyn Williams, brother-in-love Michael Staine, cousins Keli and Taylor Avery, as well as niece, Ever Reign Elmore.
