Mr. Richard Earl Griggs Sr.

In Loving Memory Of Richard Earl Griggs Sr. was born to the union of Catherine Duncan and the late Willie Griggs on November 13, 1944. He was educated in the Detroit Public School system and attended Highland Park Community College. On April 8, 1943, he joined the United States Armed Forces and became a sharpshooter and paratrooper. He completed one tour of duty and received an honorable discharge after serving 6 years. Richard was employed at Chrysler Corporation for 42 years and retired from Warren Truck Assembly Plant. He met his wife, Regina Camp, in 1965 and they got married on June 15, 1968, and through their union, they had two children: Lisa and Richard Griggs Jr. Richard and his wife enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Richard was an amazing cook, baker, and grill master and was taught at 12 years old by his mother and passed his cooking skills down to his family. He loved going to the casino with his friends, playing the lottery daily, and bowling with friends and family too. He was a great handyman around the house and loved gardening and cutting grass. He always stayed busy going to the gym, racetrack, and even working on his cars. He really loved supporting his family, especially during the holidays, birthdays, and many other special occasions. Some of his favorite annual family activities included: going to the Detroit Zoo, Toledo Zoo, and Cedar Point. He never missed a beat when it came to family. We made a family tradition of bringing in the New Year every year together playing one of his favorite games, Tonk. One of his favorite songs to sing was "Another Saturday Night" by Sam Cooke. Early Wednesday morning at 4:23A.M. on November 27, 2024, he departed this life from a prolonged illness after fighting for 5 months at Select Specialty in Wyandotte, MI. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Willie Griggs & Frederick Douglas, and his sister Paulette Idrissu. He leaves to cherish his memories through his wife, Regina Griggs, son Richard Griggs Jr., daughter Lisa Griggs, his grandchildren: Tiffani Clowney, Marcus Gibson Sr., Jeremy Griggs, and JaNai Griggs-Turner, one great grandson Marcus Gibson Jr., his mother Catherine Jones, his brothers: Kenneth, James, and Thomas, and his sister Ruth. He also leaves along a host of relatives and dear friends.
