Mrs. Ola B. Turner

In Loving Memory Of Ola B. Turner was born to Clarence and Eva Lee Ivory on September 5, 1930, in Haynesville, Louisiana. Affectionately called O.B, she was the second eldest of seven children. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clarence and Eva Lee as well as 4 siblings, Frances Ivory, Oria Lee Ballage, Eula B. Brooks and Clarence Ivory, Jr. A God fearing woman of strong faith, Ola B. accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the family church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Haynesville, Louisiana. She was a member of Triumph Church. She was educated in the Claiborne Parish Public School system in Haynesville, Louisiana. Here, she nurtured her photogenic memory. In 1946, Ola B. Met the love of her life, Lonnie E. Turner. They united in holy matrimony, on June 19, 1947. As childhood sweethearts, they had a loving relationship and were inseparable. She left Haynesville, Louisiana and traveled to Chicago, where their first child, Charles was born. Then on to Detroit, with baby, Lonnie Jr. to be with her husband as he pursued various career opportunities. They finally settled down in the Motor City to raise their growing family in November, 1950, where 13 additional children were born. They enjoyed 74 years of marriage until his death in November 2021. This is her story: Ola B. worked for a short period and her heart was dedicated to the rearing of her children as a homemaker. As a phenomenal homemaker, she cared for her 14 children while her husband worked and availed herself to help with her grandchildren when needed. Ola loved her family, she was devoted to them. She had everyone’s birthday stored in her photogenic memory. Every year, her sweet voice wishing you, “Happy Birthday!” would be on the other end of the call. Ola embraced everyone she encountered, showing love to everyone that crossed her path. Many described her as a true sweetheart, who always possessed the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, self-control. It was rare to find her in a bad mood. Ola B. lived life doing the things that brought her joy. She loved the color purple, which means royalty. It’s no accident that Ola, a queen indeed, exuded class because she was royalty! Traveling, shopping, going to plays and concerts, boat rides, and reading Jet, Essence and Ebony magazines were some of her favorite things to do. Needless to say, being pampered with weekly hair appointments was on the top of the list. Her Hobbies were: gardening, sewing, knitting, watching movies, watching sports(with basketball and baseball being her favorite) and cooking. Famous for cooking many things but all time favorites were: her home made banana pudding, potato salad and spaghetti with meatballs. Every child had their special home-made Carmel cake for their birthday. Ola B., a great listener, wise counselor, confidant and prayer warrior, looked forward to family time. She never missed an opportunity to say, I Love You! Having a benevolent heart, she donated to St. Jude Children’s Research, Purple Heart and the Salvation Army.
