Ms. Kelly Samora Herring

In Loving Memory Of A beautiful baby girl was born on July 14, 1984, in Detroit, Michigan. Kelly Samora Herring was the 1st of 2 children born to Derrick Lavon Herring Sr. and Tonya Denise King-Herring, at Michigan Osteopathic Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Kelly was a very happy baby. She was the apple of her parents eye. She was educated in the Parochial School System of Southfield, Michigan. Later attending Christ the King catholic school and the Detroit Public School System: Hampton elementary and middle school. Kelly was an extremely smart pupil. She excelled in her studies and won many awards for academics. She was very active in school plays, sports and electronics. But most of all she loved to learn. As a youth she had dreams of becoming an oceanographer. Kelly was a graduate of the class of 2002 from Sankore Marine Immersion High School. Then attended WCCCD and Henry Ford college. In 2009 Kelly joined the United States Army where she was stationed in Hawaii, where she continued to increase her learning curve. While in the Army she received numerous awards; National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Marksmanship Qual Badge, and Marksman with Rifle. Kelly was honorably discharged in 2011. In Kelly’s civilian life she wore many hats. She worked for the Veterans Administration as a Certified Peer Specialist. A career she loved. She was an avid builder, her toolbox looked better than most construction workers. Kelly enjoyed traveling with family and friends, attending basketball games, she was a hardcore basketball fan. Kelly also loved Mickey Mouse and found a love for firearms which came from her service to our country. However, her most proud role was being a parent of two beautiful souls. Messiah age 14 and Malachi age 8. Kelly delighted in everything about her role as mother, she was loving, kind, and a strict disciplinarian. Earning the title of Corporal and Lieutenant. She was adamant about their education that both of them embracing every opportunity that education can afford them. Kelly believed that education is the silver spoon that every child should be afforded, it is the silver bullet that propels you to unstoppable heights. She continued her educational pursuits up until her death. Kelly believed in leading by example. For many years Kelly was the rock of her immediate family. Taking care of almost everything needed including the care and well being of her Mother and her Three younger Siblings. She was everyone’s go to. Kelly loved DIY projects. After becoming a home owner she did a lot of her own home improvement work. She enjoyed arts and crafts tackling projects like upholstery, painting, drawing and tons of other things at her leisure. On Monday November 4, 2024, Yah/God called our sweet beloved Kelly, mother, sister, daughter, niece, and friend, home. He wrapped her in His eternal embrace and received her soul into His presence. Kelly’s father Derrick L. Herring Sr., mother Tonya Denise King-Herring Grandparents: LaBerta King, Gloria and Benjamin Middleton, and Patricia and Gerald Yopp and Arthur Bryant, Kelly’s uncles: Andre King, Matthew King, Benjamin Middleton, Gerry Middleton Kelly’s aunt: Angie Middleton-Williams proceeded her in death. Left to cherish her memory: Kelly’s sons: Messiah Herring and Malachi Herring-Fomby, Kelly’s stepfather: Wayne Norris, Kelly’s brothers Derrick L. Herring Jr, Justin Norris, and Aaliyah Norris, Kelly’s nieces: Deri’Asia Herring, Aubrie Norris-Sims, Amiri Norris, Kelly’s , Kelly’s uncles: Shawn King, Mark King, Mark Middleton, Aurther Bryant, Rodney Middleton, Aunts: Candice Yopp, Theresa Glenn, Tammy Pouncy, Loletta Brewer, Jackie Middleton, Angel Middleton, Brittany Middleton, and Yashamiah King, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
