November 14, 1949 - August 8, 2021
In Loving Memory Of Josephus “Joe” Hayes was born on November 14, 1949 in Woodward, Alabama to Mose Hayes Jr. and Fanny Griffin. He was the second of four children. His parents, brother Runyan and sister Joanne all preceded him in death. Joe accepted Christ at an early age. He attended and graduated from Brighton High School in Brighton, Alabama. After graduating from High School, he relocated to Detroit, MI where he lived with his father, who assisted him with employment at General Motors. Joe was a dedicated employee at General Motors for 37 ½ years and retired. He woke up every day neatly groomed and enjoyed his job. He played softball for Local U.A.W. 262 GM team and had a strong love for the game of Golf. So much so that he traveled annually to Florida and South Carolina with his family and friends to play golf. Josephus absolutely LOVED his family, especially his children. He always had something funny to say. His swag and style were infamous with his family and friends. He was supportive, generous, kind, stern, and had a Great sense of humor. His various family names were Pops, Grandpa Joe, and Bruh. Since the 70s, Joe never missed a family reunion and hosted many family gatherings at his home. It was the place to meet up and party like rock stars!! Joe was humble but he unapologetically enjoyed the finer things in life. In 1973, Josephus met Alice Jean Huffman in southwest Detroit. On February 10, 1978, Joe and Jean and their families were joined in holy matrimony. Joe and Jean were inseparable. This bond was a soundtrack to a lifetime of devotion, and they danced every note in unison. They loved each other immensely! Their beautiful love could be the lifetime of devotion, that Smokey Robinson referenced in “I Second that Emotion” Josephus departed this life on Sunday, August 8, 2021. His life will forever be cherished by: his wife Alice Jean; brother Kevin Hayes; daughters Lisa (John) and Stephanie; sons Lance and Che (Cierra); six grandchildren Danyele (Anthony), Dominique, Eric Sr., Eric Jamel, Micheyla, Cheyden; eight great-grandchildren Zuriyah, Eric Jr., Anthony, Eriss, Eryn and Jaday; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Mae and Joanne and a host of friends.
