Mr. John Lewis Riley
November 2, 1947 - April 6, 2022
In Loving Memory Of: John Lewis Riley was the eighth of eleven children born to the union of Henry Riley and Mary Louise Riley in Kosciusko, Mississippi on November 2, 1947. John accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age. The Riley family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1961. John was educated in Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Mackenzie High School in June 1967. John was drafted to the United States Army in September 1967, where he served in the Vietnam War. John was awarded several badges, decorations, and medals and was honorably discharged in 1970. John then began his career with the United States Postal Service in 1971 and retired in 2010. John was joined in holy matrimony to Scherry Riley in 1974. To this union three children were born: Sharice, Sharyta, and Shari. John also played an integral role in raising his grandchildren, Jada, Madison, and Kennedy. John was a patient man who truly loved his family. John was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed watching Western movies, listening to the Blues, especially BB King, and playing card games. John made the best ribs and chili and both were highly requested by friends and family. John departed this life on April 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary; brothers William, Kenneth, Ezil, Vernon, and Paul; and sister Pearline. John leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 47 years, Scherry; children, Sharice (Felton) Vance, Sharyta Riley, and Shari Riley; grandchildren/children, Jada Riley, Madison Aska, and Kennedy Riley; sisters, Luary Riley, Gwendolyn Riley, Virginia Riley, and Helen (Leroy) Ford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
