In Loving Memory Of I Harold Lake affectionately known as “Bout” was born February 21, 1967 to my parents Donnie Benson and Constance Lake. I was raised in Detroit, MI by my mother Constance and my stepfather, the late Clarence Williams. I accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior at an early age and was baptized at Mount Beulah Baptist Church. I was educated in the Detroit Public school system and graduated from Koof Ruff Adult Education. After high school I became an entrepreneur where I was blessed to do many jobs in my community; some of my many jobs included drywall, painting, carpet cleaning, landscaping, catering, cooking and working building maintenance at the Southfield Plaza Hotel. I guess you can say I was a “Jack of all trades, master of none (smile)” So, I guess you’re wondering how I became known as “Bout”, well it was given to me by my beloved Grandmother Joanna; but as “Bout” became my signature name my “8 Mile” friends started calling me “Bout Scout”. I became known and answered to “Bout” or “Bout Scout.” I had many joys and celebrations in my life but the greatest of my joys came in 1991 when I became a first-time father to my daughter Brittney Lake and five years later to my firstborn son Harold Devon Lake, Jr. (a.k.a. “Nuna”) and years later I was blessed with my baby boy James Jeremiah Lake. I enjoyed life as evidenced by the many things I enjoyed doing. Y’all, know I enjoyed playing bid whist, spades, tunk, horseshoes with the fellas, cooking, hitting up all my family functions and the “8 Mile” parties with my Sconi friends and family. I especially loved being around and spending time with my family and I will miss every moment of the good times we had. Y’all definitely knew when I was at the party because I had the dance moves (you know no one could beat them moves) and what about my favorite sayings I greeted everyone with “Hello” and “Ding Dong.” As I reflect back over my life, all the joys and celebrations; I am going to really miss it all. I thank you all for loving me and know I loved you all. I leave you all many precious and cherished memories: my loving Mother Constance and my brother Spannie. My daughter, Brittney Lake; My two sons, Harold Devon Lake, Jr. and James Jeremiah Lake. I love you all and I was truly blessed to be your Father; My five grandchildren Aliya Lake, Jayvier Lake, Legend Lake, Cartier Lake and Camille Lake; My aunties Barbara Scout (Luther Scout), Cassandra Ewings, Gwendolyn Childs (Arthur Childs) and Phyllis Lake; My uncle Thaddeus Lake (Janice Lake); My cousin / sister Courtney Childs; a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, many cousins, my “8 Mile” Sconi friends and family. I want you all to remember that I “Bout” / “Bout Scout” will love and miss you all, but forever cherish all the memories we made and forever hold them in your heart.
