Ms. Gertha Dee Lewis Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

In Loving Memory Of Gertha Dee Lewis was born on April 2, 1944, in Magnolia, Alabama to Joe Nathan Pritchett and Willie Mae Lucy Pritchett, who both preceded her in death. Gertha grew up as a Baptist and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. On June 1, 1991, Gertha was re-baptized and was a member of the Detroit Northwest Seventh-Day Adventist Church, until she transferred her membership to Oakwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church which was closer to her home. She served as a Deaconess and loved singing in the choir. Gertha attended Marengo County school system in Magnolia, Alabama where she was born and raised. She later lived in Vienna Georgia with her children that she shared with her late former husband. Gertha moved to Ecorse, Michigan 53 years ago to live closer to her younger sister Velma and her family. She lived in Detroit for several years and in Taylor until her death. Gertha wore many hats, but the most important one was as a mother. She independently cared and provided for her six children whom she greatly loved very much. She loved all her grandchildren dearly and was always happy when they would come over for visits and chat with her on the phone. Gertha had a very loving and caring heart and soul. She loved volunteering and helping at the church and church school. She also volunteered and helped cook at a local soup kitchen located in the southwest area of Detroit. Gertha loved to cook and was excellent at doing it. Gertha was also a member on a local bowling team in her earlier days and helped win awards for her team. She enjoyed shopping trips with her friends, she loved walking at the mall with her two friends from church. She worked as an industrial seamstress at General Motors Fisher Body plant in Livonia years ago until an injury placed her into a disability retirement. Gertha loved doing various things, but nothing could compare to the love she had as a servant of the Lord. She loved singing in the choir, going to bible study, prayer meetings and Sabbath service to give worship and praise to God Almighty. She loved and knew the Lord and wanted nothing but for all her family and friends to know the Lord Christ Jesus as their saving grace and personal savior. On May 28, 2022, at 2:04 a.m., Gertha took her final breath and transitioned into her new life to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
