Mrs. Alberta AKA "Bert" Thompson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

In Loving Memory Of'Alberta “Bert” Lorraine Harris was born in Athens, GA to John and Lena Harris on February 16, 1927. At an early age, she accepted Christ and shared her love for Christ with others. Alberta was a graduate of the Athens High and Industrial School in Athens. Like many, she enjoyed attending football games with her family. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, homemaking and especially gathering with family. She most enjoyed playing board games with her children. After high school, Alberta received her beautician’s license and became a hairdresser. Later she attended Wayne County Community College graduating in 1979 with an Associate of Arts Degree in Secretarial Science. She was also employed with Wayne County Community College as a Tape Librarian until her retirement in 1981. Alberta was joined in holy matrimony to James Thompson for 33 years. To this union, four children were born: Charles Thompson (Natalie) of Phoenix, AZ, Janice Hanley (Stuart) (both deceased) of Lansing, MI, Kathy Ann Thompson of Novi, MI, and Karen Marie Boynton (Donald) of Van Buren Twp, MI. Alberta Thompson departed this life to be home with the Lord on September 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her ex -husband, James Thompson and siblings, Robert Harris (Athens, GA), Hugh Harris (Athens, GA), Jerome Harris (Athens, GA), Agnes Harris (Athens, GA), John Harris Jr. (Oakland, CA), Mamie Morton (Knoxville, TN), Ethel Harris (New York, NY), Isabelle Pierce (Detroit, MI), Rosa Adams (Washington, DC), William “Will” Harris (New York, NY). She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Charles, Kathy and Karen; her grandchildren, Justin (Alana), Kevin, Stuart (Trey), Elizabeth (Liz); her great-grandchild, Adrian; her half siblings, Eva McCollum (Charlotte, SC) and Hattie McKinney (Charlotte, SC), and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
