Going Home Celebration For Woodrow Williams: Woodrow Williams was born to the loving union of Glover Williams and Mary Etta Curry on November 29, 1922 in Lawrence, Mississippi. He is the second child of five sons. James, Grady and Douglass preceded him in death. Woodrow came to Detroit at the age of three and returned to Mississippi at the age of 14 due to an untimely death of his parents. Woodrow Williams was formally educated in the Detroit Public Schools system and enlisted in the Navy at the young age of 18. Woodrow was a World War II veteran. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Detroit and pursued a career in the automobile industry. Woodrow met Elizabeth Gaston at an ice cream social at King Solomon Church in Detroit, Michigan. She became the love of his life and to this union were five sons: Anthony Hasaan, Ronald, Curtis, Douglass and Kevin. Woodrow Williams was gainfully employed with Chevy Gear and Axle and completed 30 years of service. He had a very strong work ethic. He retired but he did not stop working. He focused the remainder of his life in the community and became a real estate mogul. At one point in his career he owned over 40 real estate parcels. Woodrow Williams was a distinguished gentleman with an impeccable smile. He was the most generous man to meet and be acquainted with. He sold and gave away most of his real estate to family and friends. Woodrow resided in Detroit for 70 years and was known to give the grandest New Year's Eve parties for the community. Woodrow lived the good life and he was a global traveler. He traveled all of the United States and often cruised to Brazil, Nassau Bahamas, Paradise lsland, Costa Rico, Mexico and Rio de Janeiro. His favorite place to travel was Hawaii. Woodrow believed that education was enhanced with travel and stressed that among of his family members. Woodrow appreciated nature and was an avid sport fisherman. He fished many places and enjoyed passing the tradition to his grandson Curtis. His favorite location to fish was Canada and he was known to share his catchings with the community. Woodrow was a dedicated family man who lived life like it was golden and to the fullest. Woodrow never missed a family reunion in 50 years. Woodrow was an excellent caregiver and brought his wife on reunions even when she was ill. Woodrow loved celebrating summer holidays and he could be found playing poker at Belle Isle near the General Alpheus Starkey Williams Monument. Woodrow continued to work on his real estate, and enjoy all family gatherings until he was called home on February 21, 2015.
