Mr. William Griffie Jr.

Biography William Griffie Jr. was born June 21, 1949 in Piedmont, Alabama to the union of Bill and Betty Griffie. William graduated from Alabama A&M University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electronics Technology (1970). William moved to Detroit, Michigan where he settled into a peaceful and loving life with his wife, Cynthia Griffie, who preceded him in death in 2006. To this happy union, a son Russell and daughter Jacqueline were born. William was not only loyal and loving to his wife and children, but also to his extended family and friends. He was a very caring and generous soul. William worked as a MIOSHA Safety Officer and Investigator for the State of Michigan until his retirement after 30 years of distinguished service. He was greatly respected by all of his colleagues for his exemplary leadership skills and work ethic. William Griffie Jr. departed this life peacefully the evening of Thursday, September 26, 2024. All who knew him will deeply miss him. Short stories of hobbies and remembrance Growing up our father would mentor kids in the neighborhood being a positive male influence. He was the neighborhood’s dad always fixing bikes and other kids things when needed. Our father was always an easy-going happy person. He enjoyed watching old westerns, cop shows, hunting & nature shows, cooking shows, action movies and sports. Our father loved most types of music but his favorite was mostly the Blues. He loved the guitar and guitar music. His favorite guitarists were B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix. In his younger days, our father loved gardening in the backyard. He always had a deep appreciation for nature. Our father loved cars, especially muscle cars. His favorite muscle car was the 1970 Chevelle SS that he purchased upon graduating college. Our father also loved to barbeque and was known for his barbeque sauce. In his later years he started to become more involved in what was going on in the community and attended various council meetings. Loved ones left behind William leaves behind to cherish his fond memories: his son Russell and daughter Jacqueline Griffie; brother and sister-in-law Carl and Joanne Griffie; cousin Shirley Morris and family; sister-in-law Zenola Gordon and family; extended family member Andrea Ridley who he loved and called his “second daughter” and her family; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
