Celebrating The Life Of Wesley Lee Thomas: Wesley Lee Thomas was welcomed into this world on June 7, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan, to proud parents Hazel and James Thomas of Griffin, Georgia. He was the youngest boy of six siblings: Linda, James (deceased), Terry, Gary, Cynthia and Angella. Wesley was blessed with one daughter named Kirsten whom he loved deeply and five grandchildren, Kyree, Kemonte, Kiryeil, Kirsten, Kyrsten and Kody. Wesley was affectionately known by family and friends as "Wes." Wes was a man with few words, he'd say what he had to say and that's it. He was a devoted family man, friend, and good dancer. Wes could out Bop the best. He even taught his two younger sisters how to dance. Wes, was raised by his single Mom in the Jefferies Projects Building 802 Apartment #2. His childhood years were full of fun and mischief growing up in an inner city projects, riding his bike to Belle Isle and racing back to the projects. He loved playing sports with his brothers and friends. Wes was the class lead trombone player at Jefferson Middle School and Murray Wright High School band. Most of his young life was spent keeping up with his older brother Gary. Wes would be found on weekends swimming at Wayne State University's Olympic-size pool where he was awarded a swim certificate. He was able to swim 100 meters in one breath, he could also dive from the highest swim platform at just 12 years old, much to the surprise of spectators. Wes was also a junior life guard at Kelsie’s. Wes attended Murray Wright High School. He received a license and state certification in auto body repair upon graduation. Wes wasted no time by taking his first job at Oakland Auto Body Repair Shop with his brother James, who also was certified in auto body repair. His loyalties led him to work there until it closed. Wes spent the remainder of his adult life servicing vehicles at Fred & Son Auto Body Repair Shop, until he had two massive strokes. He had been in a nursing home for the past seven years. Wes loved being outdoors. He was an avid sports fan with a competitive heart challenging all games and sports. He loved the Lions and Tigers winning or losing. He did not miss a game on TV and whenever possible he made sure he went to a live game at the stadiums. He even made pilgrimages to Tiger Stadium on Trumbull and Michigan Ave. to receive the free bat, ball and catcher’s mitt as a young guy with his three brothers. Wesley’s life was full of laughter and love which he easily gave without question. His legacy lives on!
