Mrs. Thelma Wimbley

Celebrating The Life Of Thelma Wimbley: Thelma Railey-Wimbley was born September 19, 1927 in Wilmar, Arkansas to Golar and Beatrice Railey. Thelma attended the Wilmar Public School system through 9th grade and completed high school at Shorter College in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Thelma accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a teenager, and was baptized and became a member of Shady Grove A.M.E. Church in Wilmar, Arkansas. After graduating high school, Thelma later married Curtis Wesley Wimbley on August 21, 1948 and moved to Detroit, Michigan. From this union, they bore three children, James Carlton Wimbley, Donnese Lucille Covin (John deceased), and Darrall Bruce Wimbley (Yovonda). Once settling in Detroit, Thelma became a member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Church where she taught adult Sunday school until her health began to decline. When Thelma was not busy being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed traveling to Washington D. C, New York, Illinois, Vancouver and Arkansas to visit her friends and family. Friends and family who were close to Thelma remember her singing two songs that were dear to her, Oh My Soul and You Are So Beautiful to Me. Those who knew her also knew that she could be very stubborn and strong spirited. When her mind was set to a certain belief or idea, there was no changing it. Thelma was a loving aunt and second mother to a host of nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother to Jay, Troy and Korree Baker, Lamont, LaToshia, Audrey, Phillip, Laureen (aka Sparkle), and Cristion Wimbley, Rico, Nicole and Rhonda Covin. Altogether, Thelma had twenty-five great-grandchildren, four of which preceded her in death. Thelma lived a long life surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Wimbley, two brothers, James and Herman (aka Bo) and four sisters, Irmalene, Norma Jean, Bennie and Omega. She was called home by the Lord after a lengthy illness that she succumbed to on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. The family wants to express their deepest, sincerest gratitude to Abvrial (Neicey) Wimbley for her dedication and devotion of care to our dearly departed loved one.
