Ms. Talisa Lynn Copeland

Talisa Lynn Copeland was born on July 28,1968 in Detroit, MI to the union of Verl and Linda Copeland. Talisa accepted Christ at an early age. Talisa was raised in the community of Delray where family was always just a step away for sometime Talisa was the only child until her sister LaShawn made her grand entrance into the world and just like that a family was whole . Later on in the years to come the family moved to the northwest side of Detroit where they continued to be raised until adulthood. Talisa attended and completed her education in Detroit Public Schools. She then continued to further her education by receiving her Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree as well as her Masters Degree in which she was very proud of and made sure to live up to her accomplishments. She then went on to work for the State of Michigan where she was able to apply her skills and knowledge as well her loving caring spirit she dedicated her life to serving children,families,and the community for 20+ years until her retirement. Along the way Talisa forged lifelong friendships with so many individuals she always brought a sense of fun and joy and left an impact on everyone that crossed her path. Talisa cherished her friendships. If you were her friend you were family. Like her father Verl, Talisa believed in family, she believed family was your foundation. She was very family oriented, a social butterfly if I may say . It was hard not to love her beautiful smile. Talisa was definitely a pillar in the Copeland family . She had a way with words and was a stickler about speech . “ How you articulate your words defines how you are perceived in this world” is one thing she prided herself on. All the younger kids especially loved them some Talisa Lynn. Despite Talisa not having any children of her own, her sister LaShawn blessed her with her one and only niece Charisse Talisa Copeland affectionately known as “MOO MOO” and boy did she have the family in a choke hold that little girl was spoiled rotten. Charisse was not just her niece “SHE WAS HER CHILD and nobody could tell her otherwise. She loved and spoiled her unconditionally and always played a major part in helping Lashawn raise her. Later down the line Charisse then blessed the family with 4 beautiful great grands whom they loved to pieces all the same.Talisa made sure to always spread love evenly and prided herself on wanting the kids to have as many memories as possible. Talisa was a Diva when it came to her appearance keeping her nails and hair uniquely creative and always dressing classy. Her hobbies were her niche; she enjoyed decorating ,creating pieces of art,cooking flavorful dishes, sowing and planting beautiful flowers in her yard. In 2005, Talisa was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis(MS). Her diagnosis didn’t stop her. If she had to use a cane she was going to do it with style and class. Her creative juices birthed DIVASTYXS and she turned heads wherever she went with her bedazzled divastyk. Her body had many changes over time and she became immobile needing home care. Many aides came and went but one left an impact so heavy that she adopted her as her own as well as her children and even some family members too. Since 2017 Dee loved and cared for Talisa as one of her own family members and continued to care for til the end. Their bond was like no other. She would refer to Talisa as “MY LADY”. On Sunday March 9th 2025, Talisa peacefully transitioned to be with her father, Verl and other loved ones. She leaves to cherish in her memory her mother Linda Copeland,her sister LaShawn Copeland, niece Charisse Copeland, Great nieces and nephews Gabrielle,Noah,Gabriel “Eli” and Reagan, Aunts Valerie Copeland(Ronald Copeland), Beatrice (JB Copeland), Caregiver Desirae Allen (Nate &Nick), and a host of cousins,friends and many loved ones.
