Mr. Stacey Tirrell Mercer, Sr.

Stacey Tirrell Mercer Sr. was born on December 25, 1969 in Macon, Georgia to Thomas and Margaret Mercer. When he was six months old, his parents moved their family to Detroit, Michigan where they settled in and made a life for themselves. Stacey accepted God as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Later on, he became a member of Christian Tabernacle Church in Southfield, MI under the leadership of Dr. James L. Morman. He attended Detroit Public Schools and worked for ZF North America Inc. as a Test Engineer for over 13 years. On October 27, 2005, Stacey married the love of his life, Sonyia Mercer. They were married for 19 remarkable years. Through this union, they remained a united front that loved to enjoy life, laugh and enjoy each other’s time and company. Sonyia remained by his side until the end and honored their vowels and cherished every moment they spent together through his last days. Stacey was big on family! His greatest accomplishment was being a father to his three beautiful, vibrant children. With Stacey Tirrell Mercer Jr., Valencia Michelle Mercer, Davont’e Thomas Mercer and bonus daughter Kachay Miller by his side, he remained the best dad and held a close relationship with each of them. Part of making him smile was when talking about his children. He had a bond and love for them that could never be broken. He also shared a special bond with his two nieces, Scarlett and Penelope whom he loved very much. Like father, like son, Stacey became an avid bowler and fishing “pro”. He was an outstanding bowler who consistently bowled a perfect score of 300, won many awards and held the title of Vice President for the Motor City Bowlers Guild. He also bowled a 800 series, which is a huge deal in bowling! When he wasn’t enjoy bowling, he was on a boat catching fish. He also enjoyed cycling, softball and sideline coaching the youth football teams when his son’s played. He was the life of the party and you could always count on him to make you laugh and put a smile on your face. He took much pride in being a member of “The Perfect Gentleman” social club where he could be the dapper, smooth, and well put together man he was. Along with these things, there was nothing better to Stacey than getting together with the fellas to play a game of dominos! On January 16, 2025, God wanted His child back home with Him. In the peace of his home, Stacey went through Heaven’s gates and is now smiling down on all those that he loves so dearly. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben Mercer Sr., Reba Mercer and Mary Farrar, uncles Ben Mercer Jr., Charlie Mercer and Ollie Farrar, aunt Lillie Mae “Honey” Carter, Christine Mercer and Minnie Mercer and his dear cousin Cynthia “Boom” Johnson. Stacey leaves behind to cherish his loving memory and legacy his parents, Thomas and Margaret Mercer, his children Stacey, Valencia and Davont’e Mercer, bonus daughter, Kachay Miller, his wife Sonyia Mercer, his loving, doting sister Tenesha Mason (Frank), two nieces Scarlett and Penelope Mason, bonus niece and nephew Miyana Williams and Israel Mason, uncles Jessie Mercer and Zachary Slater, aunts Willie Slater, Bernice Mercer, Barbara Farrar and Yvonne Farrar, two special cousins, Stephanie Hamilton and Demetrice Smith who were more like sisters, a host of “play brothers”, friends and extended family.
