Ms. Ruth Ann Johnson

In Loving Memory Of Ruth Ann Thrash was born on September 10, 1943, in Detroit, MI to Baker & Ruth Thrash. She was the second eldest child of 4 girls and 2 boys. Ruth accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and grew up attending services and worshipping at Meditation Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Second New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully remained until her death under the tutelage of Pastor Eric Burr. Ruth attended and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1962. After some years went by, she decided to go to college where she received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Madonna University in 2007. Ruth worked for Sears Roebuck company for many years before she became a Claims Analyst for Midwest Benefits and eventually retired from Kmart Corporation as one. In 1964 she married James Johnson and to this union 1 child was born. As sometimes things happen in life, she and James did not stay together. Ruth later married Ronnie Tinnon, and no children were born from this union, but he loved her child as his own until his death in 2022. Ruth earned several certificates that include Grant Writing, Relative Care Provider, Day Care Aide, and as a Safe Food Handler. She has certificates for community service from places such as Meals on Wheels and for volunteering at Second New Hope doing charity work. Ruth was a Head Usher at Second New Hope until her health started declining. When Ruth was younger, she loved to skate. Over the years she developed a love for line dancing through her daughter. From this she made countless new friends, and some became family. Ruth was loved by everyone she met. She was a mother to many, who always had open arms for a hug and a smile. She would give great advice to whomever would solicit it from many of her own life lessons. Some of her favorite sayings were “It’s a great life if you don’t weaken”, “You can’t follow a parked car”, and “Pray about it”. She never met a stranger and could often be found talking to someone she didn’t know in a store. It was evident by the smile on their faces that she had touched their lives. Ruth departed this life on August 22, 2024, surrounded by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents Baker Thrash and Ruth Wade, her sister Patricia Thrash and her brothers in law Matthew West and Benjamin Winters. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: her daughter, Ladevris (Larry); 2 sisters, Barbara and Shelagh; 2 brothers, Tommie (TJ) (Marilyn) and Lewis (Lana); 3 grandchildren, Ronnie (Kari); Debbie (Robert); and Paige; two bonus sons, Noel & Tyjuan. 9 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
