Mr. Rufus Charles Givens Sr.

A Reflection Of Life: Rufus Charles “RC” Givens was born to the union of the late Owens G. Givens and Fannie Mae Miles on August 2, 1921 in Shears, Mississippi. RC attended school in Little Rock, Arkansas. He decided to become an entrepreneur due to his passion in repairing cars and owing his own business. He started his journey by moving to West Memphis, Arkansas, it was here that he rented a service station and auto repair shop named Zack Bragg. Next RC migrated to East St. Louis, Illinois and owned a service station and Auto repair shop. He continued on his journey and moved to Colorado for a short time. Finally in 1958 he decided to make his home in Detroit Michigan. It was there that he was employed at two of the major automotive plants although this would be enough for some it was still not enough for him. RC was determined to have his own business and that is when he decided to make his dream come true. He became the owner and operator of the Speed Way Service Station and Auto Repair Shop on Warren and Helen street in Detroit, Michigan. He also decides to take part in the family business with his brothers, sisters and wife Rosa. RC married his first wife Alberta Davis when he was 19 years old and had three children in this union; Charlotte Givens, Rufus Givens and James Givens. He later fathered a son, Eugene Sims. His mother was Mary Ann Wiseman. RC married his second wife Rosa Mae Dill. He was a loyal husband until her death in 2008. RC was a devoted father to their child Gertrude Sanders. RC dedicated his life to Christ in 2005. He attended Christian Faith Baptist Church until his health would not allow him to attend. Even though RC could not attend church towards the end of his life he would still tell everyone how good the Lord has been to him and that he was truly blessed. RC’s most prize possession was his family, He would often travel to East St. Louis, Illinois; Memphis, Tennessee and Seattle, Washington just to name a few to visit his loved ones. He was known for his hard work and giving heart even after his retirement. His love for helping people and his knowledge for cars carried over until he was in his 90’s. RC became ill in his early 90’s and could no longer live alone. His loving granddaughter Euvondas Royster, became his guardian and moved RC into her home. He remained with Euvondas until his death. RC departed this earthly realm on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 12:10 am surrounded by his loving family, and now is resting peacefully in the arms of his Savior.
