Ms. Ronda Unice Ashmon

Her Journey: Ronda Unice Ashmon was called home to rest the evening of June 23, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. She was born to the union of Ronald Eugene Ashmon and Alice Ashmon on August 6, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. She was reared and educated on the eastside of Detroit. She attended Denby High School where she was a stellar athlete who enjoyed competitive sports. She was on both the basketball and track teams and relished in showcasing her talents and abilities. Her slam dunks were epic. After graduating from Denby High School in 1979, Ronda continued to excel in numerous athletic and physical activities such as tennis, martial arts and aquatic sports. Health and fitness was an integral part of her lifestyle. She excelled in this area and went on to become an aerobics instructor and a member of the Marcus Garvey Academy African dance troupe. After high school she went on to pursue a psychology degree at Wayne State University. Following her studies, she landed her ideal job as a Sheriff with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. In recent years as her health began to deteriorate, she continued to work each day in spite of her challenges. As a single mother, Ronda worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable life for her family. The resilience and perseverance she displayed with her work was a common thread found throughout her lifetime. Momma Ronda, as she was affectionately known, was a woman of great strength and courage. She valiantly battled ill health with very few complaints. She was a proud woman who was quiet, often soft spoken but fiercely private and protective. Momma Ronda was an excellent cook who was known for her famous baked goods especially sweet potato pie and pineapple upside down cake. The family looked forward to any occasion that would warrant her donning the apron. Ronda was also very nostalgic and famous for chronicling milestones and events. She collected a treasure trove of family mementos and photographs that were prized and held dear to her heart. Ronda was a constant source of encouragement and support to those she loved. You could always count on her to have your back. She was a loving mother who doted on her two children and a proud grandmother to three wonderful grandchildren. She will forever be loved, cherished and missed.
