Mr. Rogers Scott

In Loving Memory Of Rogers Scott: Rogers Scott, 83, of Detroit, Michigan was born in Ashland, Georgia on July 18, 1931. The only son of Louise and Frank Scott, he was the fourth of their five children: Gracie, Willie (D), Alma Jean (D) and Thelma. At an early age he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was raised under the Christian leadership of Rev. O.D. Jackson at King Branch Baptist Church in Georgia. He also received his formal education in Georgia. He graduated from Union Baptist High School in 1949. Soon after graduating, Rogers stepped out on faith and moved to Detroit, Michigan where he found employment with the Chrysler Corporation. However, his employment would be interrupted when he answered the call of duty to his country and joined the United States Army. Serving with courage and dignity he received an honorable discharge in 1952. After leaving the Army, Rogers returned to Detroit, Michigan to find not only his position at the Chrysler Corporation waiting for him but also a new church home. In late 1952, he became a member of New Light Baptist Church where he would serve and worship faithfully for over 60 years. He was a member of the Celestial and Sons of Thunder choirs and also a member of 100 Mighty Men. It was also here at New Light where he met the love of his life, Barbara Page. In 1964, Rogers and Barbara joined in holy matrimony. A union that would last for 50 years and be blessed with 3 loving children: Crystal (Cree) and twins; Ronda and Rogers. In 1993, Rogers retired from the Chrysler Corporation after 43 years of exemplary service. In his retirement he stayed busy. He served as a volunteer at New Light's Food Program and in the Maintenance Department. He served as Treasurer for the "Just Us" Scott Family Unit and proclaimed himself as the official sample taster at Costco's. Not easy to be embarrassed and one never to shy away from a challenge especially when it came to repairs and his innovations. To visit him was to be witness to some unique yet inspiring and functional contraptions. He loved Bid Whist and played it like poetry in motion. He would always find a way to win. He loved to watch basketball and baseball on TV. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a man with a generous heart, a contagious laugh, a great sense of humor and sung with an amazing bass tone in his voice. On February 6, 2015, 3:34 a.m., the Lord called Rogers home to sing in His Heavenly choir.
