Mr. Robert Lee McGhee Jr.

Robert L. Mcghee Jr, was born on August 31,1953 in Montgomery, Alabama to Robert L McGhee Sr and Jennie Mae Ashley. Robert enjoyed reading and discussing the Bible. His love for reading the bible gave him a deeper knowledge and understanding of what Love and Sharing is, his family was a priority to him, always being concerned and ready to help whenever he could. Although he was not a member of any church, He often had home Bible Studies with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Robert attended the Stanhope Elmore High School in the city of Millbrook, Alabama. While in High School, Robert earned his High School Diploma in 1971 and participated in a variety of Sports such as Track and Field and Football, where he excelled and competed to win Trophies. After completion of High School Robert went on to join the US Army, where he served a number of years in the countries of Germany, Korea, and Hawaii. After completion of duty in the US Army, Robert met Sherry Barnes in 1997 and her 2 daughters Tashianna and Sydney. They were joined in Holy Matrimony on May 24, 2003, he received Tashianna and Sydney as his own. Robert was employed with Detroit Public Schools for a number of years as a School Bus Driver, and then with various other Transportation companies as a driver, until his retirement in 2007. Robert had a variety of hobbies both indoor and outdoor. He enjoyed Reading, Fishing, Football, Drawing, Gardening, as well as training and caring for animals. Every summer he worked hard at planting and cultivating his garden which he so loved. And he always shared his harvest with the neighbors. He also had a collection of classic and Vintage Karate movies which he enjoyed watching occasionally. Robert also enjoyed playing Chess which he often played during break time at work. As time went on Robert adopted one of my interests of crafting herbal preparations, where he went on to craft his own Tonic called Fire Cider in which we enjoyed so much. He enjoyed fishing most of all and he also taught Sydney how to fish where they spent many hours together. You could find them any summer day on the Detroit River casting their lines. Robert departed this life February 28, 2024. He was preceded in death by: his Mother Jennie Mae Ashley and his Brother George McGhee He leaves to cherish his memories: current wife, Sherry McGhee (Tashianna and Sydney), Father Robert and Patricia McGhee Sr., Sister Lucretia Ashley Jennings, Sister Priscilla McGhee, Brother Roderick McGhee, his previous wife Sonia Lockett and their 5 children LaShonda, Angela, Renate, Rachel, and Veronica, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Sheila McGhee , nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
