Mr. Richard E. Simley Sr.

In Loving Memory Of Richard Eugene Simley, Sr. was born September 22, 1949 to the late Phillip and Oretha Simley, Sr. in Eagle, West Virginia. He was formally educated in West Virginia schools and graduated from Montgomery High School. While attending Montgomery High, like all the “Simley Boys”, in similar fashion, he was an all-star athlete and excelled in football. After his accomplishments in High School, he moved to Detroit and was employed by Ford Motor Company. During the early stages of his employment, he was drafted into the United States Army where he honorably served for three years. After his service, Richard then returned to Ford Motor Company where he entered an apprenticeship program at Henry Ford College. Richard obtained his Journeyman License, and become a Skilled Electrician for Ford Motor Company; where he worked for thirty-nine years until his retirement in 2007. Richard was a hardworking man who loved his career, as well as his family and friends. He was married to Maurer LaNell Colbert, where two children were born from their union; Richard Simley Jr. and Ashley Simley. He treasured watching his children grow, attending family gatherings, cooking, listening to music, and watching sports. God truly blessed Richard Simley Sr. After his wife’s passing, he was able to find true love again with Cindy Johnson. Together they traveled, enjoy each other’s company and eventually became one through holy matrimony. Through this union, he would also gain two bonus sons, a daughter-in-love and a phenomenal grandson. The Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church Family also held a dear place in Richard’s Heart. He served on the Senior Usher Board for many years. He cherished his usher position by constantly reading, attending classes and conventions to make sure he stayed knowledgeable about the ministry. He also enjoyed working on various projects around the church with his best buddies Deacon Edward Johnson and Deacon C.L. Peete. Richard Eugene Simley, Sr. departed this life and was called home to be with the Lord July 24, 2024. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Phillip Simley, Jr., Charles Simley, William Simley, Sr., James Simley, Sr., and Troy Simley. One sister Isabelle Godfrey and his best friend and son Richard Eugene Simley, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Cindy, his daughter Ashley, sons Willie Johnson, Jr., Darin (Tamika) Johnson; Daughter-In-Love Tammy, grandson Donovan; four sisters Geraldine Thompson; Sylvia Robinson-Wilkins; Frances McGigor; and Debra (lke) Whiting, one brother Robert (Carolyn) Simley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
