Penny Marie Folkes April 4, 1963 – December 17, 2020 Penny Marie Folkes, 57 of Detroit, MI. passed into the arms of God on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at her Southfield, MI. Home. Penny was born on April 4, 1963 in Front Royal, VA., she was the daughter of Frances M. Folkes (late Lloyd I. Folkes Sr.) She received her formal education and graduated from Warren County High School in 1982. Shortly after graduation Penny moved to Detroit, MI. Where she made her new home living with her grandfather (late Eckie A. Martin). Penny has worked several jobs but made her home at Art Van Furniture for nearly 30 years. Penny became an Operations Manager at the Dearborn location where she made many friends along her journey. Penny met Mark Lewis Mayfield Jr. And they remained friends as well soul mates till the end Mark Lewis Mayfield Jr. remained by her side. Penny had a passion for baking and cooking which she learned from her Aunt Doris and was best known for her “Penny Cakes”. Penny was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece and cousin as well as a friend to many. A couple of Penny’s precious friends were Stephanie Drake and Yolanda Hill, her friends for over 20 years in Michigan. In Virginia she has two special childhood friends that she was very close to Joyce Keener and Althea Ford. A special thank you to Gladys Holmes who she has been a lifelong friend of 35 years and has been a tremendous blessing to the family. Gladys and Penny not only were friends but like sisters and had a bond that could never be broken. Penny leaves to cherish her memory, her mother Frances M. Folkes (late Lloyd I. Folkes Sr.) Front Royal, VA. Sister Deborah Martin Butler (Steve) Bentonville, VA. Brothers: Lloyds Folkes Jr., Detroit, MI., Kevin Folkes (Angela) Gainesville, VA., Brian Folkes, Front Royal, VA. Nieces and nephews: Karen (Mike), Kristen, Kimberly (Craig), Avanti and Isaiah. Great nieces and nephews: Asia, Autumn, Adalynn, Ma’Kai and Lucas and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
