Mrs. Patricia Bynum

The Life of Patricia Bynum: Patricia made her transition to eternal life on Thursday, March 6, 2014 after a long, vigorous battle with cancer, her daughter Tarel Davis was at her side reading Psalm 37. Patricia was born to the late Isaac and Elizabeth Bynum on December 13, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. She was affectionately known as Patty or Pat to family and friends. Pat was reared in a spiritual home by her parents. Her mother was the church secretary and Pat spent many hours at church trying to play the piano. She learned to play the piano by ear. One Sunday, the Holy Spirit touched her and she played like never before, the entire congregation was anointed. She was baptized at Bethlehem Temple of Faith Church and later joined New Providence Baptist Church April 26, 2006. Pat attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated Cum Laude from Western International High School in January of 1968, which afforded her two years of college at no cost. Patty was very dedicated to her family and instead of going to school she began a career working for the City of Detroit as a Junior Stenographer. She was promoted several times up to Executive Secretary III, a position only seven people held and hard to accomplish, with the Commission on Community Relations (now known as the Human Rights Department). During those 28 years she worked with over 10 directors to ensure equal opportunities for all Detroit residents. Her last few years with the City were with the Detroit Resource Management System (DRMS) as an Administrative Project Assistant to Change Management and the Communications Team. She retired after 30 years of service with the City of Detroit on June 1, 2001. Pat was a member of the King David Greater Queen Ester Joy Chapter #60 of the Eastern Stars since 1983 and many other social clubs throughout her life. She was a nurturing woman she became a licensed foster parent in 1991 caring for more than 15 children in her home and adopting four as her own children. She enjoyed family gatherings, playing bid whist, dancing, fishing, traveling and spending time at her cottage in Shrewsbury, Ontario. Pat was a jazzy lady who loved to dress and keep her NAILS FABULOUS! Pat was a true entrepreneur who had her hands in many businesses ranging from Avon to life insurance. She could sell Stevie Wonder a pair of prescription eye-glasses! As a true top saleswoman she won many trips to travel the world including: Jamaica, Hawaii, Tahiti, Cancun, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Bahamas, and Disney World. As the top Tupperware salesperson she won a brand new station wagon. Pat could really save a dime for a rainy day. She taught her children to do the same. Pat always preached the value of education to her children and helped them in any way possible to accomplish that goal. During her retirement she accomplished many goals and dreams of being her own boss, setting her own hours and writing her own paycheck in financial services. Pat was a notary, licensed insurance agent and began working for H&R Block in 2004. Within 10 years of working with H&R Block, she established a notable clientele of over 200.
