Ms. Myrtis Michelle Peterson

In Loving Memory Of; Myrtis Michelle Peterson was born November 2, 1971 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the oldest of five girls to Willie James and the late Rachel Jeanette Peterson. Though she was known by her middle name, Michelle, she was very proud to be the only grandchild named after her grandmother, the late Myrtis Groves. Michelle accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Ferndale, Michigan. She also attended St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church and Mount Transfiguration Baptist Church. A devout Christian, she loved to read and study the Bible. We know Michelle is an angel watching over us. She will not let us forget her memories at Christ the King and Benedictine High School. She wasn’t the greatest basketball player and she knew it but always treasured Mom going crazy cheering when she did make a basket. She was a great singer and would showcase her voice in talent shows and school plays. After CK and Benny High, Michelle attended Alcorn State University in Mississippi before returning to Detroit to continue her studies. Michelle later moved to Elyria and Lorain, Ohio where she lived for several years before returning to her hometown. Detroit was home where Michelle would tell you she loved representing the westside, walking to her friends’ homes, having cook-outs, playing cards and games, riding the Mile and downtown to Belle Isle, or just sitting on the water and fishing. Michelle understood friendships are for a reason, a season, or a lifetime and over the years, shared special friendships and good times with Natasha, Marilyn, Kathy, and Qiana. Michelle would like to let us know that her work here was done. On Friday, February 7, 2020, she received the call that you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. Her new assignment comes with a huge bonus, a reunion with Mom, Grandma, Granddaddy, Aunt Ollie, Uncle Sammie, Uncle Curtis, family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful, peaceful place where she will be socializing and talking (as she loved to do), dancing, singing, writing beautiful poetry, and reading to her heart’s content. Prince and Michael Jackson will be blaring. Laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce. Her favorite movies are in constant rotation – only the classics like Purple Rain, Krush Grove, and Carrie. She will still celebrate the commencement of Scorpio season and possess the loyalty, passion, and charisma of a true Scorpio. There’s no loneliness and no fear.
