Mr. Michael Jerome Hurston

In Loving Memory Of Michael Jerome Hurston, a loving and devoted son, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and uncle, was born on March 22, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan to Nathaniel Arthur Hurston and Sue Ellen Hurston (Gaut). On June 30, 2024, Michael went home to be with the Lord. Michael's life was a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to service. He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Clinton Street Greater Bethlehem Temple Church in Detroit. Later in life he remained active in his church community, continuing to fellowship under Pastor Aaron Beal at New St. John Missionary Baptist Church. From his earliest years, Michael displayed a remarkable sense of concern, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. Sensing a need to support his mother and siblings, he always found ways to earn money and took on various odd jobs, including several paper routes, and, while still in high school, working in downtown Detroit business offices, and night shifts at a retail store. You might be thinking, when did he sleep? Michael attended the Detroit Public School system and graduated from Southeastern High School in 1967. After high school graduation, he went to work at the same company as his father, Bower Roller Bearing Company. After a short stint at Bower Roller Bearing, he went to work for the Chrysler Corporation at the Lynch Road Assembly Plant as a production line worker and worked his way up to various executive level positions until his retirement as a Human Resources Manager in 2005 after working more than 30 years with Chrysler. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael cherished his passions for sports, especially golf, baseball, and bowling. He was a familiar face on the golf course and the bowling alley, always enjoying these activities with enthusiasm. When not engaged in sports, he loved cooking and sharing his delicious dishes, watching sports and old movies on TV, and being a great neighbor to all. Michael's greatest sources of pride were his family, his college degrees, and helping others. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s Degrees from Central Michigan University and dedicated himself to transforming lives by personally recruiting and securing jobs for a countless number of individuals at Chrysler Automotive. His firmness, fairness, and generosity endeared him to all who knew him. He was known for his directness, love for his dog Scottie, and his willingness to help others without hesitation, whether through advice, financial support, or contributions to charitable causes – if he knew of projects that helped the underprivileged, he would contribute mightily without being asked. Michael will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Bellesy; his daughter MarcShaun Spencer Hurston-Gilchrist; stepdaughters Ta’mara Guthridge-Lewis (Ke’vin) and Antionette Jones; four grandchildren Michael, Ajaz, Marshaun, D’Juan; and his siblings Beverly Hurston, Barbara Foster, Nancy Hurston-Carter, Melvin (Janice) Hurston, and Karl (Debra) Hurston. He was preceded in death by his mother Sue Ellen, father Nathaniel, sister Brenda Hurston-Feggins, and nephew Mark Feggins. In addition to his immediate family, Michael leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his cherished four-legged companion "Romio". His legacy of love, generosity, and dedication to family and community will forever be remembered. Michael Jerome Hurston's life was a testament to love, devotion, and selflessness. His memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
