Mrs. Maxine Anne Davis

Celebration of Life Life's Beginning - Maxine Davis was born to Fred and Effie Hardy in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, on February 14, 1928. She was one of the youngest children of 14 siblings born to this union. She received her education from the primary and high school in North Carolina. Family - Maxine relocated to Detroit in 1946. On September 27, 1947, Maxine was united in holy matrimony with Harold A. Davis. To this union two daughters were born, Linda and Judy. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Davis; her daughter, Linda; and 13 siblings, Curtis Hardy, Joseph Hardy, Pauline Hardy, Mayo Hardy, Fred Hardy, Rupert Hardy, Heloise Jones, Mildred Balden, Naomi Thompson, Mary Potter, Gwendolyn Godlock and Hazel Loyd and Mattie Reeve. Spiritual Birth - Maxine confessed Christ at an early age. She was baptized and became a member of the New Salem Church of North Carolina. After her move to Detroit, she became a member of the Thompson Avenue Baptist Church (today known as Dexter Avenue Baptist Church) under the leadership of Rev. William R. Haney. In 1968, Maxine made the decision to worship with her husband at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ecorse, Michigan under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Barlow, Jr. She worked as an usher on the No. 2 Usher Board and was a member of the choir. In the late 1980s her health began to fail. In 1991, she decided to visit churches in the Detroit area. She obeyed the gospel and became a member of the Wyoming Avenue Church of Christ under the leadership of Bro. Dallas A. Walker, Jr. Employment - Maxine worked for the Detroit Public Schools system for 20 years. In 1964, the Board of Education launched a new project and hired Maxine as the first School Service Assistant at Durfee Middle School, one of the worst schools in Detroit. Maxine worked hard breaking up lunchroom fights, and supervising hallways and classrooms. During that time, she took classes and phases that the Board offered to improve the new project, which proved to be successful. In 1984, Maxine retired from the Board of Education on disability. Interest - Maxine loved people. She enjoyed hobbies such as decorating her home and landscaping. Her favorite plants were evergreens and trees.
