Mrs. Maxine Boynton

Maxine Boynton was born on July 9, 1934 in Tupelo, Mississippi (Pontotoc County). She is the third daughter of the late Thomas Robinson and Gladys (Robinson) Postell. She made her peaceful transition to be with the Lord on May 11, 2014. Maxine grew up in Detroit and graduated from Central High School. Throughout her early career, Maxine has worked for Grace, Blaine and Crittenton Hospitals in Detroit. She worked in education as a teacher’s aide at Ferrand Vocational School. Good food has always been a passion for Maxine, and while raising a family and working, she earned a degree as a Dietician. In the latter part of her career, Maxine worked as the Food Services Manager for Cambridge South Nursing Home, and retired as Food Services Director for the Oakwood Hospitals Health System. A consummate mother and homemaker, Maxine was an excellent cook who took great pride and received great pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. Her family fondly remembers the many holiday gatherings, summer barbecues and family picnics that always featured her amazing apple cobbler, pound cakes, butter rolls and banana pudding. This passion for food was the genesis for Maxine starting her own catering business, “Maxi’s Creative Creations,” a family business that included her immediate and extended family. She believed in empowering and supporting family and friends alike. Maxine assembled a library sized collection of cookbooks from all over the world. An avid sports fan, Maxine loved watching sporting events–especially football and tennis on television. Her hobbies included sewing, crafting, bowling, dancing and listening to good music. She became famous at her church for the unique and beautiful floral arrangements she made. Holidays at Ebenezer were made elegant and beautiful because of her decorative talents. Maxine’s faith in GOD was unwavering. She was a member of Ebenezer AME Church for over 50 years, and was very involved in many church auxiliaries and groups, including Stewardess Board #3, The July Birthday Club, The Baber Floral Club and the Tri Anes Club. Maxine was generous with her advice, guidance and leadership. Maxine never had to be asked to do anything – instead she saw a need and was always ready with a solution. She held a special affinity and love in caring for and about the elderly and the sick and shut-in.
