Ms. Maureen Wilson

Maureen Wilson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born in 1949 in Luxora, Arkansas, Maureen was the beloved daughter of the late Van and Catherine Harris. As a teenager, her family relocated to South Bend, Indiana, where she attended and graduated from John Adams High School in 1968. She later went on to pursue a medical billing and coding certificate. She was one of eight siblings and is preceded in death by Shelby Davis, Penroy Brown, Otis Harris, Robert Harris, Thelma Harris, and Velma Harris. She is survived by her loving brother, Jimmie Harris, who remained a constant presence in her life. In 1969, Maureen moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she would raise her family and plant the roots of a life filled with strength, grace, and unwavering love. She met Willie Spann and fell in love; they wedded in 2005. She was a proud and caring mother to five children: the late Rashieda Wilson (deceased 2002), Bobby Bailey (Kimberly), the late Ebony Wilson (deceased 1979), Frankie Lynn Lewis (Joseph), and Demetre Wilson (Trinell), a nephew who was like a son, Antione Harris and a host of God children, nieces and nephews. Maureen’s joy multiplied with each new generation. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Roger Boyd Sr., Mariesha Hawthorne, Maurice Hawthorne II, Taylor Bailey (Jalen), Markell Hawthorne, Bobby Bailey III, Madalyne Bailey, and Jody Lewis V. Her heart overflowed with love for her great-grandchildren: Roger Boyd Jr. (RJ), Maurice Hawthorne III, and Joy Washington-McGhee. Known for her warm spirit and generous heart, Maureen found true happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved family gatherings where laughter filled the room, attending church, shopping for thoughtful treasures, going to the casino and bingo, cooking meals that brought everyone together, and caring for her cherished flowers and plants, which reflected the beauty and nurturing nature of her soul. She had a passion for doing hair and did this as a hobby for many years. She enjoyed decorating her home. She also opened her heart and home to many children over the years, helping to nurture and raise them with the same love and warmth she gave her own family. She will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and aunt. Maureen touched many lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her absence leaves a deep void, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. We are grateful for the time we shared and will carry her memory forward with love and honor.
