Mary Dorothy Moore

In Loving Memory Of Mary Dorothy Moore was the only child born to the union of the late Adlee and Mary Grace Preston in Waynesboro Georgia December 28, 1935. Mary got much of her education in the Detroit Public School System and graduated from Cass Technical High School. After high school, Mary attended college and graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing in 1958. She was a dedicated nurse for the city of Detroit for most of her career. Mary was a nurse who cared deeply for her patients so much so that many of her patients became long lasting friends. While at Wayne, Mary met a young man who became her husband. Mary joined in holy matrimony with the late Harold Moore. To the union, 2 children were born. Mary worked and raised her children while enjoying several hobbies and community service. She baked dozens of home made Christmas cookies that she sent to neighbors and friends. She helped to raise money for the March of Dimes and Unicef going door to door. She was a girl scout leader and also enjoyed knitting, sewing and traveling. Flower gardening was also a hobby that she liked. She loved to brighten up the house with flowers from her garden. Mary's life of service was not limited to her community service and nursing career. She accepted Christ at an early age and served in various capacities in the church for many years. She used her nursing skills as a member of the Nurses Guild at church providing comfort and support to members and visitors during regular worship services, funerals and special events. Mary also supported the lives of the sick and shut in or incarcerated by writing them hopeful and encouraging letters. Her favorite service was singing in the choir. She joyfully attended choir rehearsals and sang in the church's gospel concerts to uplift the name of Christ. Mary's presence was an example of a devoted Christian and will be missed. Mary died August 20, 2024. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Monica Barnette (Glenn) and Karen Moore; two grandsons Bryan and Keith Barnette; sister-in-law, Anika Bailey (James), four great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends
