Mrs. Marjorie Rencher

Irene Marjorie Lucille McWhirter Rencher, fondly known as either Marjorie, Margie, Marge or Maggie, was born October 1, 1936 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Ben and Irene (Crawford) McWhirter. She was the youngest of six children. Her parents, and three siblings, Alma, David and Clarence, preceded her in death. She was raised in a Christian home where everyone in the family was actively involved in their home church, Bethel Presbyterian in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Marjorie was educated in Lancaster, graduating from Barr Street High School in 1954. In 1955, Marjorie moved to Detroit, MI where she continued her education. She graduated from Lewis Business College in 1957 having majored in Business. She was a masterful typist and exceptional secretary. On April 6, 1965, Marjorie was united in holy matrimony with Eddie James Rencher, the love of her life. This union was blessed with one daughter, Kimberly Marie. For forty-nine years, Marge and Eddie celebrated their lives together with joys of family fun, trips and watching Kim evolve into the beautiful young woman she is today. Marjorie’s faith was a very important entity and integral part of her life. She quickly united with St. Mark Lutheran, under the leadership of the late Rev. James Wadsworth. She later joined Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, Dr. Charles G. Adams, Pastor. Marjorie, with her love of people, was considered to be the neighborhood mother, taking care of family’s and friends’ children. With her beautiful smile, she maintained a “quiet” loving, caring and giving spirit that not only encompassed the immediate family, but extended to friends and neighbors as well. Her employment history was comprised of being a medical receptionist for Dr. Williamson, serving as secretary for Shiloh Baptist Church for many years and working as a clerk for the United States Postal Service, until her health declined. For a short period of time Marjorie was also employed as a telephone operator. Margie was a person who lived life to the fullest. She always made certain her family had hot meals daily. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and wearing beautiful clothes. She was an active member of the Sorrento Block Club and The Explorers (Rencher’s Family) Club, for many years. On May 29, 2014, after a lengthy illness, Marjorie went to be with the Lord.
