What A Journey: Psalm 37: 23a states “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighted in His way.” Her life exemplified a remarkable faith and confidence in God who sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world; then gifted His children with the Holy Spirit that we all may live a life of victory in Christ and so she lived! Margaret Laurietta High was born in Texarkana, Texas on Sunday, October 28, 1945. She graced this Earth with her light as the youngest daughter of Rayford and Esther Lee High, the sixth of seven children. With five older siblings, she quickly earned the nickname Pet. She loved to cook for her family and expressed her love for family and friends through her cooking. She grew up in a family that loved the Lord. She gave her life to Christ at a very early age. She spent her life working for God in many capacities. At New St Mark, she was a choir member, church secretary, youth group leader, choir president and served in any capacity needed. She picked up people for church for years. Even when she did not have transportation, she caught cabs to church and instructed cab drivers to pick others up as well and she paid for the fare. In 1992, she joined Word of Faith International Christian Center where she enjoyed the teaching of the Word of God through this ministry and joined the choir. Even when her health began to weaken her mortal body, ushers and choir members wheeled her to the pulpit where she was allowed to sit and sing praises to God. What a testament of faithfulness to our King and the resilience of her character. She truly shined her light for the glory of God. Yet, perhaps her greatest light was witnessed behind closed doors when she ministered to her family, all of which love her one by one. She has a personal relationship with each of her children who value her dearly and have enjoyed ministering to her needs in these final moments. Yet, her greatest joy was being a Grammy. She decided she wanted to be called Grammy because she is “the Lord’s award” to her grandchildren, each of which have come to know favor, tenacity and hard work through her love and training. No wonder her heart weakened in these final years….it became overworked because she gave so much of it away. Whether she was cooking, cleaning, loving, working, singing, babysitting, praying, fasting, counseling…whatever the task, each person in her presence understood that they were loved beyond measure. Her light encouraged others to know the strength in her and she ministered Christ to so many. Each of us has a treasure inside because of her presence in our lives. Now, she has her crown of glory and she has entered into the Lord’s presence.
