Ms. Marcia "Ekua Botwe" Daniels

A Celebration Of Peace and Love: Marcia Daniels was the firstborn to the union of the late Burgess G. Wilson Sr. and Ocie Belle Cain on August 10, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. Marcia received her formal education from the Detroit Public Schools. She graduated from Mackenzie High School. She then attended the Detroit Institute of Commerce receiving a diploma in Stenography. In 1966, she married Eugene Patrick Simpson. To this union two children were born, Deirdre Renee and Eugene Patrick Jr. For over 36 years, Marcia had an honorable career with the Government of the United States. Her career began at the Veterans Administration Hospital and ended in 2009 when she retired from the United States Postal Service. Marcia was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for over 40 years. She served as a Deacon and was a choir member for a number of years. In addition, Marcia was a member of the African American Lutheran Association and Daughters of Ruth Prayer Group. A love for Mother Africa led Marcia to participate in an official naming ceremony in 1993 where she received her African name Nana Ekua Botwe. Her love affair with Africa and its people was also exhibited through numerous visits to Ghana, West Africa and Gambia. Ekua's yearning for knowledge and her desire to seek the truth led her to actively participate in various think tanks and study groups such as Eye of Heru and Khephera Study Groups. She was a member of the Association for the Classical Study of African Civilization (ASCAC), Fihankra International and the Light Bearer's Book Club. Her spiritual path led her to be a student of the Course in Miracles. Most recently, she studied with the LOVE Communication ACIM Group. Previously, she studied with Circles of Light Ministries and Blessed Circle of Love. She was a diligent student of IPET ISUT Institute. Recently, she elected to elevate her self-expression by completing the Landmark Forum and Advanced Course. She was committed to expanding her mind over and above what she could ever believe and she urged others to do the same. Ekua loved to write poetry which was a way to express the many heart-felt moments of her life. Her poetry, which revealed her experiences and personal growth, shows how much she embraced the cycle of life. Interestingly, Ekua was somewhat shy and used poetry as an outlet for self-expression. A woman of many talents for Ekua was also a seamstress for over 50 years. She created some of the most exquisite gowns and clothing imaginable. She also imparted this mastery onto her two children. Ekua was a "hard core" bid whist player, and had an outrageous laugh that was contagious. She loved to travel both domestically and abroad. Ekua was an avid lover of jazz. She enjoyed attending live jazz performances at "Baker's Keyboard Lounge", the "Dirty Dog Cafe" and looked forward to attending the annual Detroit Jazz Festival. Her favorite artist was the renowned Nina Simone. Ekua found her freedom and deliverance on November 28, 2013.
