Mr. Marcellous Lajuan Strong Sr.

Mr. Marcellous LaJuan Strong Sr. was born on October 30, 1970, to John Ivory and Willie Mae Strong in Detroit, Ml. Around the age of three his mother began a relationship and later married William E. Hannum who loved and raised Marc as his own son. His grandmother Helen McNeary was another important factor in raising Marc. In his early years he was initially was introduced to Catholic Faith by the Ivory Family where he served as an altar boy. Through his grandmother Helen he was later baptized at Burnette Baptist Church. Marc developed a passion for football. He played for Detroit Central High Trailblazers where he later graduated the class of 1988. After a short-lived college football career Marc returned home and re-entered the working class. At an early age he worked in his grandfather’s laundromat, he also worked at Little Ceasars, a window factory but his love of people and protecting others lead him to doing security at the Advance Building. There he forged and developed lifelong friendships. His love of people later brought him to Davita Dialysis where he worked as a Reuse Technician where his laughter and jokes brought joy to many patients in the facility. In 2010, he received his CDL and being driving semi-trucks where he retired due to health issues. Marc LOVED love. His first was Dalonda Turner, and though union yielded two children Terri- Yane, Marcellous Jr. and Terriante who he loved and raised as his own. Through his 2nd union to Nay Hutson came Dorothy Jean (DJ). Marc was a father figure to many and loved them as his own children. These bonds were strong up until his last moments of life. Marc was such a loving, caring and supportive person. He was wise and always offered a judgement free zone which offered unmeasurable grace to all. Marc had many passions such as music, dancing, grilling and the Detroit Lions. On the grill he always delivered fall off the bone ribs and the most tender brisket. He was always full of joy. His jokes would make the ones around him forget their woes and immerse themselves with laughter. Marc passed away peacefully March 1, 2023, with a smile on his face at his home in St. Clair Shores. His love, joy and laughter will truly be missed. He was preceded in death by his (father) John Ivory, (mother) Willie Mae Strong-Hannum, (father) William E. Hannum, (grandparents) James and Helen McNeary and (brother) Timothy Hannum. He leaves to cherish memory his four children Terriante Turner, Terri- Yane Turner, Marcellous Strong Jr. (Shirl) and Dorothy Jean “DJ” Hutson. Three grandchildren Adrian Strong, Ya’niyah Jenkins, and Za’nylah Holly- Turner. Two brothers Reginald Hannum and DaMond Strong (Michelle). Three sisters Carla Hannum, Dana Hannum, and Kenya Woods (Ed). Three nephews Dior, Chris, and Brian and niece Kayla. He also leaves a host of family, friends, and girlfriend Jennifer to cherish his memory.
