Ms. Malvinda Jones

In Loving Memory Of Malvinda Jones (Mel) was born on February 13, 1940 to the union of Samuel and Elizabeth McMahan-Jones in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was the eldest of three children. In 1943, the Jones family relocated to Ferndale, Michigan. In 1959, they made Detroit their permanent home. Mel graduated with honors from Northern High School in 1958. She continued her education at Wayne County Community College and obtained an associate degree in Political Science. Years later she became a mother to three children Taras, Tracy and Travis. In 1967, she began her career at Chrysler. Mel excelled there and took upon many roles. In 1990, Mel accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at Word of Faith Church in Southfield. She attended bible study and assembled the neighborhood kids to accompany her to church. Mel was very passionate about writing. She followed her love for journalism and wrote for Northern High School and Chrysler’s newspaper. Mel’s hobbies included reading, collecting magazines, cooking and hosting family gatherings. Mel retired from Chrysler in 1997. She spent her retirement gardening, traveling, shopping, cleaning and decorating her home. She loved to Clean. Mel was a God-fearing woman who had a wonderful personality that would light up a room. She was optimistic and known to be caring, kind-hearted, strong, courageous, compassionate, intelligent, humorist and witty. Mel donated to a lot of charities, just to name a few feed the children Wounded Veterans, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Father Flanagan’s Boys Home and the American Cancer Society. She lived on Fielding for over 30 years and was everyone’s favorite neighbor. The community knew her as “Aunty Mel.” Mel hosted neighborhood clean sweeps and was devoted to maintaining her community. She loved everyone and would give anyone her last dollar and the shirt off her back. Mel was a fighter in 2006 she overcome a rare bacterial infection. The family was gathered to the hospital to say their last goodbyes, but our prayers were answered and God had the last word. Malvinda made her transition on January 13, 2023 at 2:22 pm at Henry Ford Hospital in Wynandotte, Michigan. Preceding her in death is her mother, father, sister Samietta and son Tracy. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Simpkin, two children Taras and Travis (Sarvita), five grandchildren Candace, Ty’Kesha, Ty’Ree, Parish, Shayla, stepgrandchildren Shernay, four great-grandchildren Elijahjuan, DaMaryon, Keymarryon and Tourea’. Also left to cherish her is her best friend Brenda, godson Brandon, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that love her dearly.
