Ms. Lucile Powe

In Loving Memory of Lucile Powe was born Lucile Fields on November 29, 1930, to Mary and Elias Fields in Boligee, Alabama. Lucile was the only child born to this union and lived in Alabama until she was in the 4th grade. In the 4th grade, Mary sent Lucile to Detroit, MI to live with her Aunt Lou and cousins. Lucile was educated in the Detroit Public Schools system and graduated from High School of Commerce (now Cass Tech HS) in Detroit, MI in 1947. After graduating from high school, Lucile married Jairus F. Powe and they had three children, Michael, Sheldon and Kimberley. In 1956, Lucile started her career working as a Typist for Ordnance Tank Automotive Command. Lucile worked as a Typist for a couple of different companies before she landed at General Motors where she worked until retirement as a Clerk Typist. After retiring from General Motors, Lucile became a foster mother and eventually adopted two daughters. Lucile also worked part time as an education aide assisting staff and students during lunch and recess for Southfield Public Schools. Lucile accepted Christ at an early age and served her church home, Metropolitan Baptist Church, in multiple roles for over 50 years. In her spare time, Lucile enjoyed cooking, knitting, and gifting handmade arts and crafts such as jewelry, rose bouquets made of money and home decor for her family and friends. Lucile also loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her Granny. In recent years, Lucile’s health started to decline, and she was diagnosed with dementia. Despite her diagnosis, Lucile remained faithful in God and regularly prayed for and with her family and friends. On November 15, 2024, just a couple of weeks before her 94th birthday, Lucile was called home to glory. Preceding Lucile in death were her son, Sheldon D. Powe, her daughter, Kimberley J. Powe-Porter, her parents, and several cousins who she grew up with as siblings. Lucile leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Michael K. Powe (Jaqueline), adopted daughters, Jelina Powe and Shairlyn (Shawn) Small, her grandchildren, Erica Williams, Donielle Murphy (Michael), Ian Powe (Laura), Darnell Porter, Justin Powe, Michael J. Powe, Brittney Porter, and Alim Ball (Debra); great-grandchildren, Aubrey Goode, Richard Powe, Micah Powe, Michael J. Powe, Jr., Harper Powe, Alim Ball, Jr., Mila Ball and Liam Ball, as well as a host of family, friends and colleagues.
