Ms. Lettie Marrie Redley

In Loving Memory Of Lettie Marrie Redley: Lettie Marrie Redley was born on October 9, 1949, in River Rouge, Michigan to the late Eugene Alonzo and Leora Gertrude (Copeland) Redley. She was the second of three siblings. Lettie was a brilliant and talented student. She was educated in Detroit Public Schools, and attended Boynton and Hunter Elementary Schools. Upon graduation from Cass Technical High School in 1967, she enrolled in Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1971. Subsequently, she acquired a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Wayne State University in 1975. As her career progressed, she secured a Graduate Certificate in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University in 2002. As an occupational therapist, Lettie held various positions as a clinician, an educator and an administrator in Metropolitan Detroit and in northern California. She worked in both mental health and rehabilitation settings, as well as with inpatient and outpatient services. She was the manager of the Henry Ford Hospital OT Department, a professor at Wayne State University, and a clinician at Neighborhood Services Organization. Before retiring, she was the Director of Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Wayne County Community College District. Lettie was a member of the American Occupational Therapists Association and the Michigan Black Occupational Therapy Caucus. In addition, she holds the distinction as the first and only therapist to organize the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) conference held in the State of Michigan. In her freshman year at WMU, she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and was initiated into her beloved Delta Chi Chapter in 1968. She served on the chapter’s executive board as the corresponding secretary, and then as the president in her senior year. She was also an active member of the River Rouge-Ecorse NAACP Chapter. Lettie was a servant of the Lord, and an active member of Union Second Baptist Church in River Rouge, Michigan for many years, where she served in numerous capacities. She was generous with her time and professional skills, always ready to help friends and family members in need.
