Mr. Leon Jordan

Leon Jordan was born on January 31, 1940, to the union of the late Anderson Jordan and Charlotte Mae Jordan in Madison, Georgia. He lived with his uncle Floyd Jordan Jr. up until the age of 14. In 1954, Leon relocated to Detroit, Michigan to live with his mother Charlotte and bonus father Johnnie Thompson. Leon accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was a member of Mt. Perry Church in Bishop, Georgia. He was educated in the Detroit Public School System and graduated from Northeastern High School in 1959. In 1963, Leon met and fell in love with Gladys McClain. They married on April 26, 1969, where they became one family and he gained a daughter, Anzie Simmons. From their union they welcomed Salina and Shalonda Jordan. Leon was a great man of many talents. He worked as a Head Chef at American Axle for more than 30 years from which he retired. (With him being the Head Chief, you could not tell him, that he couldn’t cook). Leon was also self-employed as a skilled tradesman, serving as the Founder and CEO of Big Three Painting. He was well known for his professionalism and exceptional craftsmanship, specializing in painting, drywall installation, flooring, and more. If you needed it done, he could do it. Leon was loved by everyone who knew him. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories from his life. Leon also enjoyed taking family vacations and traveling back to the South to visit his family. He also loved going to the casinos with his senior crew, and spending time at the place he LOVE the most the racetrack. When he wasn’t engaged in those activities, you could often find him in the kitchen, where he loved to make sweet potato pies, wines and jelly (which he happily shared with family and friends) or outside at the grill, perfecting his BBQ. After a life full of overflowing with love, laughter and joy, Leon Jordan departed his life on Saturday, September 21, 2024. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his loving wife Gladys Jordan of 55 years, three daughters, Anzie Shoulders (Robert), Saline Fletcher, and Shalonda Castle; five brothers, Rev. James Love, Johnnie Lee, Harvey Thompson, Earl Chester, and Milton Thompson (who preceded him in death); two sisters, Geraldine Harris-Johnson and Loretta Capito; five sisters-in-law; Maude Eppinger, Gloria Ivey, Darlene Simmons, Charlene Ross and Sylvia Dixon; four brothers-in-law, Leroy Simmons (Joyce), William Simmons, Edward Simmons (Linda), and Roger Simmons (who preceded him in death). Also, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
