Mr. Kevin Anthony French

In Loving Memory Of: On April 3, 1974 Kevin Anthony French entered this world. He was the second son born to the marriage of Toni and Gregory French. He joined older brother Sean, and nothing was ever the same after the pair of rambunctious brothers joined their large extended family. Kevin endeared himself to everyone with his infectious smile and steady stream of laughter. Growing up on the west side of Detroit, he was fun loving, adventurous and full of pranks. As a boy, he got into lots of mischief, but his twinkling eyes, respectful manner, and heartfelt apologies kept him out of any serious trouble. Kevin found Christ at an early age and was a long-time member of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the Detroit Public Schools. After finishing school he began working. Coupled with an outgoing personality, leadership skills and a no-nonsense, take charge attitude – promotions to supervisory positions quickly followed. His keen eye and attention to detail led to positions as a Quality Inspector/Controller. Recent employment and supervisory positions with Shinola-Detroit LLC., was evidence of his professional qualities. He entered several real estate business ventures making property repairs and maintenance. Finding his niche for managing group homes and halfway houses quickly became evident. Kevin’s resilience and compassion for those he served was displayed by providing proper placement, supervision and care for clientele placed in his care. Kevin was known to be the life of the party, witty, funny, outgoing and gregarious. He was streetwise and savvy. A big guy who maintained a gruff exterior, his quick wit, sarcasm and brutal honesty gave him a tough edge, but underneath rested a big heart. He loved to cook, and appointed himself the #1 BBQ Grill Master. He had a passion for travel, Peanut M&M’s, cigars and tequila. He enjoyed watching TV, his favorite shows were Everybody Loves Raymond, The History Channel, The Discovery Channel and NFL Football. Most of all Kevin loved to make any and all he encountered laugh. There was also a softer side to Kevin – he was always there when needed the most. One example of his strong sense of compassion was demonstrated when Kevin saved two small children from a burning house. He was recognized for his heroism with a proclamation by the City of Detroit. Kevin could often be overheard quoting words of wisdom and guidance from his father Gregory, especially “Family First” and “NO Quit!” He adored his mother Toni, and was devoted to seeing that she was safe and comfortable. After his mother retired, he made sure to speak with her daily. At times he was reclusive, preferring to “stay in his own lane,” but “Ma” always knew where he was. Kevin departed this life peacefully on Friday morning, November 20, 2020 at his home in Southfield, MI.
