Ms. Kathy Spencer

“A Time to be Born” Kathy Louise Spencer was the last beautiful baby of four daughters, born to Lincoln and Mary Spencer, in Detroit, Michigan on April 27, 1962. As a child, Kathy enjoyed being the baby girl. Also known as “Shortcake”, she was loved and spoiled by her big sisters. She was ecstatic when they allowed her to tag along to the movies, bowling, and skating. Kathy was an exceptional dancer. She was also the family confidant, particularly to her nieces, nephews, and a mother to many. “ A Time for Love” Kathy was blessed with the gift of motherhood; once In June of 1986, with her firstborn, Shantae Phillips, and later in February of 1999, with her youngest daughter, Destiny Edwards. She felt extremely privileged to be a grandmother to Tyee Coxton, her only grandson. She was his greatest fan in supporting his athletic accomplishments. Her kids were truly the love of her life. Kathy displayed her love through passion and protection. “A Time to Serve” Kathy had a love for the Lord and became a member of Beacon Light House of Prayer, in Detroit, Michigan, where she was also baptized. “A Time to Learn and to Work” Kathy was educated in the Detroit Public Schools, followed by the completion of Detroit Job Corp. She began working in the field of hospitality and transitioned into what became a long viable career in the healthcare industry, serving those who faced a wide range of challenges. After a 20 year span, Kathy happily retired from Detroit Medical Center. Her work ethic was impeccable and her patients loved both her bedside manner and her humor. “A Time for Peace” On December 26th, Kathy peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm. Her legacy lives through her daughters, Shantae Phillips and Destiny Edwards. Her favorite grandson, Tyee Coxton. Preceding her in death, are her parents Lincoln and Mary Spencer, and her oldest sister Cynthia Daniels. She leaves to cherish her memories, her sisters Sharon and Robin (Albert Jerone), 2 nephews: Rodney (Alice), and Jerone”JD” (Janet), 2 nieces: Marcia (Tyran), Shamaree (Thomas), 3 great-nephews: Darrel, Elijah, Thomas Jr., and 6 great-nieces: Raveen, Novanna, Falyn,Justice, Imani, Journey and a host of other family and friends.
