Ms. Kaila Michelle Edwards

Reflections Of Kaila's Life: aila Michelle Edwards was born September 18, 2000 in Southfield, Michigan to Marcus Edwards and Ivy Mcllwain. Her birth was highly anticipated because her name was given to Ivy by God in a dream a year earlier. Kaila's spiritual guidance began at Perfecting Church in Detroit under the direction of Bishop Elect Marvin L. Winans. It was there that her parents, recognizing she was a gift from God, dedicated her back to Him. She later joined Triumph Church with her mother and stepfather, Levie Mcllwain where she served on the Hallal Dance Ministry and had the awesome opportunity to perform at the magnificent Fox Theatre. Kaila was an inspiration to many and served as a testimony of God's healing grace. At the age of 3 she was diagnosed with a tumor on her brain. The prognosis given by the doctors was grim and her parents were told that she may lose the ability to use her facial muscles leaving her unable to smile. They were also told that she would have to learn to walk and speak again and would have a learning disability. But God..... Kaila was an exemplary 10th grader at West Bloomfield High School. She maintained honor roll status during her entire student life. She was a recipient of the President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence. Kaila enjoyed playing the clarinet which she played in band for 4 years. She was also part of the West Bloomfield Marching Band and had a remarkable time performing at the Band of America Competition in Dayton, Ohio and the State of Michigan competition at Ford Field. Kaila was a hard worker and took pride in earning her own money. She worked at Palmer Park Golf Course where her interest in golf was piqued. Kaila was thrilled about earning a spot on the West Bloomfield golf team. Kaila had an infectious personality and always greeted you with a big smile and hug. She loved all genres of music and insisted on entertaining her family with her singing and dancing. Kaila also had a heart for helping others and was excited about becoming a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Teens of Detroit Leadership Program to become actively involved in civic and social activities within her community. Kaila was generous with her love and it has been extended in her death. As a donor to Gift of Life, others will benefit from Kaila's eyes, heart and bone marrow.
