Mrs. JoAnn Walker

JoAnn McCord was born May 5, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan to Eldrige Thomas McCord and Helen Clarke Ford becoming a family of four with her older brother Michael McCord. JoAnn was raised in a Christian home. She knew God and the importance and power of prayer. JoAnn received her education through the Detroit Public School system and graduated from Eastern High School in 1965. During those high school years, JoAnn and her friends enjoyed dancing at the Greystone Ballroom and Mason Hall. JoAnn was wed to Charles Walker Jr. and two children, Yolonda and Kenneth were born from that union. JoAnn retired from General Motors Automotive Company after working thirty-two years. During that time, she met and maintained friendships that lasted throughout her lifetime. JoAnn was very outgoing, fun to be with and many times the life of the party. She was a people person and never met a stranger. JoAnn had strong opinions and was never shy to share them, especially when it came to politics. One could hear her regularly saying, "Shut the noise!" JoAnn was loving, generous and supportive of family and friends. She LOVED her immediate, extended and blended family members. She was especially fond of children and loved interacting with them. She would say, "I should have been a teacher because I love kids." She looked forward to and enjoyed any type of family gathering. She enjoyed attending birthday celebrations, cook outs, her nieces and nephews sporting events and school programs, and she looked forward to family vacations and family reunions. JoAnn equally enjoyed spending time with friends, many of whom she had known since elementary school. She led a very active social life. She was in a Birthday Club for over thirty years. She attended and participated in her neighborhood Block Club meetings. She enjoyed card games and was an avid domino, bingo, and keno player. JoAnn went to casinos, attended concerts and sporting events. She especially loved being outdoors on hot summer days. JoAnn departed this life on February 5, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge and Helen McCord, brother Michael McCord and grandson Cedric Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Yolonda Lemon (Myron) and Kenneth Walker. Her grandchildren Cordell Jones and Keyona Jones. Two great grandchildren Aubrey and Courdney. Her siblings Victoria Brown, Herman McCord (Wanda), in-laws Alfred Walker, Ronnie Walker (Cynthia), Brenda Ford (Willie) and Glenda Cook. JoAnn will forever be cherished by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
