Mr. Jimmy Evans

Jimmy Evans was born on April 25, 1958 in Detroit, MI to Myrna and the late James E. Evans peacefully passed away on September 27, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Jimmy was the second oldest of three boys, growing up with his younger brother, Dirk Evans and his older brother, Andre Evans on the westside of the City of Detroit. He attended Cody High School where he played football. After high school, Jimmy served in the National Guard for two years before receiving an Honorable Discharge. In his early years, he enjoyed roller skating and attending jazz concerts. His favorite artists were Al Jarreau and Michael Franks. It was at Rolladium Pontiac Skate Center where he met the love of his life, Yulanda Proffett. They married and shared 43 wonderful years together building a legacy of love and dedication. Jimmy is survived by his wife Yulanda Evans; his eldest son, Rico Brown; his younger son, Jimmy Evans Jr.; and his stepchildren Gerald Hill and Naimah Jenkins. He was a cherished grandfather to 14 grandchildren. His older brother Andre Evans preceded him in death. He leaves behind his mother, Myrna Evans; his younger brother, Dirk Evans; and a large extended family of relatives and close friends. Jimmy was known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and passion for driving. For 40 years, he traveled across the United States as a semi-truck and commercial bus driver, known on the CB radio as “Cool Side,” a handle he shared with his wife, “Lady Cool Side.” Jimmy dedicated 30 years of service to the City of Detroit. Aside from driving, he enjoyed simple pleasures like working in the yard with his wife, grilling for family gatherings, Christmas shopping for his grandchildren, and watching sports and movies at home. As a loyal Detroit Lions fan, Jimmy often wore his favorite team’s hat and shirt. If he wasn’t watching the Lions game from home, he was in the stands with Jimmy Jr. and his grandsons JT and Tatum. Jimmy maintained a love for jazz and treasured his collection of vinyl records. Jimmy loved to talk and often engaged in friendly conversations wherever he went. Jimmy’s spirit will always be cherished by those who knew him. His stories, laughter, and love will continue to inspire and bring comfort to his family and friends. Rest in peace Jimmy. Your legacy of love and dedication will always be treasured in our hearts.
