Mr. Jessie Allen Hopkins, Jr.

Jesse's Journey: On February 25, 1959, a phenomenal man, Jesse Allen Hopkins, Jr., was born in Detroit, MI, to his loving parents, Jesse Bowling Hopkins, Sr. and Shirley Ann Hopkins, both who preceded him in death. Jesse was blessed with a large and loving family and was the oldest boy of 9 siblings. Jesse attended Detroit Public Schools before becoming an employee of Chrysler Motor Company, where he eventually retired. Though he was baptized at an early age, later in life, Jesse became a faithful member of Up From the World Ministries in Detroit, MI, where he rededicated his life to God and happily sang praises to the Lord as a member of the church’s choir. In his younger years Jesse formed a singing group called The Finest Touch with his three best friends Victor Williams, Delbert Williams, and Peter Wilson where they frequently performed for family and friends. He also had a second passion for baseball and at the age of 18 he played on a team called the Dirty Dozens which was sponsored by The’s Party Store. He was an excellent first-baseman with Bang Bang as his nickname. His other passions included cooking, helping others, fishing, and bowling, which are all things that he will be remembered by. However, there is no denying that on June 21, 1986, when God joined Jesse with his beautiful wife, Cheryl Hopkins, his influence had spread to a new level. At the forefront of his influence was their four amazing children. Along with ensuring that his wife and children were well taken care of, once his beloved father, Jesse, Sr. passed away, Jesse, Jr. took his place as head of his entire family. Jesse enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his wife and grandchildren. He loved partying, going to the casino, watching the news, shopping, and supporting others. Although there are so many memories of Jesse, among the greatest are those made with his wife of over 30 years. There was never a time you saw Jesse without Cheryl, and you better believe they were the most fashionable couple in the room, always matching. They brought happiness, smiles, and laughter with them everywhere they went. They epitomized real, undying love, greater than what’s seen in movies and read in books. They were the “IT FACTOR,” everyone’s favorite couple and greatest inspiration.
