Mr. Jessie James Brown

Mr. Jessie James Brown "Daddy" was born in Moundville, Alabama on July 30, 1926 to the union of Mr. James and Lizzie Mae Brown. The eldest of 13, he took on responsibility at an early age. He helped on the family’s farm and served as second dad to his siblings. He was educated in the local school system and as a young adult was a naturally gifted Plumber. He moved to Detroit for the first time at 17 with some neighborhood friends. While here in Detroit he found work at the now historic Michigan Central Train Station. Daddy would soon return home to Alabama to marry the love of his life Wilhelmina. Initially being told by doctors that they would not be able to have children. Believing in the goodness of GOD they prayed, had strong faith and to that union GOD blessed them to have 1st, 2nd then a 3rd set of twins followed by two single births. Daddy worked as a Master Plumber all over Tuscaloosa, Al. Working as an independent contractor alongside his brothers-in-law Paul (Irene) and Richard (Argie). He was known as 1 of the best plumbers in Alabama. Known to start in the morning in an empty shell and have a whole house plumbing installed and working by that evening. He was affectionately known as “Plumber Brown”. He would later move back to Detroit with his wife and children where he got a job at Motor Wheel and retired after 30 years of loyal service. After retirement he enjoyed his number one and two passions plumbing and scrapping. He had a strong belief that if a man had a truck, he always had a job. Yet his favorite job was being a chauffeur to his wife and grandchildren. He and his wife were a match as both would give you anything your heart desired. Daddy often would sit in the Malls parking lot for over 8 hours in any weather letting his wife and grandchildren shop till they dropped. Only ever requesting a hotdog with mustard and plenty of onions and some peanut brittle while he passed time by listening to talk radio. Daddy was a good father, seen in the fact that at their big age his children are spoiled to this day. He was the best grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather a child could have. He never missed an opportunity to say he loved you and share a word from GOD pulling out the Bible he always carried in his pocket. He was a tithing member of Greater Northwest Church of God in Christ for over 50 years. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilhelmina, daughters: Gloria, Twins Argie and Margie, son James. Sisters Lucille, Lillie Mae, Hattie Bell, brothers: Bobby, Willie G, Willie Lee and two siblings that passed as babies. Grandchildren Bryant and Tonya; 4 great-grands David, Tim, Daniel and Geneva. He leaves to cherish his four children: Gladys, Jessie, Wilhelmina and Marice. Over 100 grandchildren, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; siblings Charley, Houston, Louise, Shirley Ann and host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
