Mr. James Edgar Edwards

Celebrating The Life Of James Edgar Edwards: James Edgar Edwards was born on July 3, 1931 in Chicksaw, Alabama to the late Prince and Irene Edwards. He was raised in a home where God was the center of life for the entire family, which included 14 siblings. His faith did not waiver throughout his entire life. James attended Mobil County Training School in Plateau, Alabama where he achieved academic excellence and proudly played the saxophone with the school's band. Other interests included playing tennis, recreational baseball, and golf. After graduating from high school, James enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. He served during the Korean War and earned the rank of Corporal. James was honorably discharged from the military in 1953. After his military career, James relocated to Detroit, Michigan and lived for a period of time with his sister, Mildred and her husband Walter. He became a skilled metallurgist and retired after more than 30 years. He enjoyed music and became a great dancer with all the right moves. When he would return to Mobil for a visit, he took great pride in teaching those dance moves to his brothers and sisters. James became one of the founding members of Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan. His faith deepened under the leadership of the late Bishop David L. Ellis Sr., and continued under the ''prolifically anointed" Bishop Charles H. Ellis III. James loved the teaching, preaching, music and fellowship of his beloved Greater Grace Temple for more than 50 years. In 1963 James became the proud father of his son, Audwin Edwards, who currently resides in the State of New York. In 1974 he was joined in Holy Matrimony with Rosemary Dixon. Their family grew to seven children, several grand and great grand-grandchildren. James enjoyed spending time and sharing wisdom with so many young people who referred to him as Uncle Bootsy. He touched many lives with his kind spirit and wonderful sense of humor. James also knew his way around the kitchen and enjoyed demonstrating his advanced culinary skills. The Lord called his son, James Edgar Edwards, home on October 10, 2016.
